Years ago, I worked for a company that did theatre technology, computerised systems that control lights, open and close the stage curtain, and fly bits of scenery about on stage. I've long since moved on to greener pastures ('twas long hours and poor money) but I still keep in touch with some of my old workmates.
So, over a pint at the local watering hole, one of them told me this story that he swears blind is true...

It's backstage after curtain closed on the Beyonce tour, and the star of the show is having A Celebrity Tantrum.
It seems her phone has vanished, she put it right there! before the show, and now it's gone!, and she wants security to strip search every technician and stage hand until it's found.
The stage manager, a famously laconic and unflappable man, comes over and tries to console her. He explains that backstage is a busy place, small items don't stay in one place for long, someone probably just moved it out of the way. Then he takes out his own phone and asks her number, so he can call it.
That won't work, she screams, because the ringer's switched to silent.
The stage manager smiles, and says.....
"Well, if you liked it, you should have put a ring on it!"

Something just doesn't ring true about that story...

Um...I don't quite think so.

I'm not that up on popular music, but I do get that reference...
If true, I'd love to know whether her reaction was to laugh at the clever line, or be all the more displeased. [Razz]
