Hey... "0" is listed twice.

That's only the 499 most popular passwords.

I demand my money back!

Okay. So I've been found out. But I only use those on the 500 sites that I least care about.

So there.

Steen: Is is possible that one of them is a capital Oh?
That's been one of my /favorite/ password issues to figure out with someone.

Otherwise, I think I've used one of those passwords on a not-publicly-available-strictly-for-testing-dummy-account.

I could (but won't) name a large company that used one of the top 20 passwords as the LAN administrator password in every one of their sales-offices in Australia.

Funnily enough the filter that the Governors office of IT runs everyone through blocked it. LOL Are they afraid we'd use them or that they do? [Smile]

I've seen a few of those used as Cisco switch/router enable secrets... but I won't say where...

Also interesting is the web filter where I'm currently working filtered this under the error: "this site appears to contain pornography."

.

Naughty word filters are funny.

A former boss (a maths geek) showed me the warning email he'd received from the corporate porn-filter-bot.

It had him listed as a gay pornographer because he visited maths sites full of words like 'homogeneous' and 'sexagecimal'

One of my favourite blocked sites was the Ohio State Fair a few years ago. Naked cow udder pictures I guess. I've also had it block a tribute site for the actress Anna May Wong, for reasons we never determined.

I can't say that I ever used a single one of those passwords.

I think if everybody knows you are a geek you darned well better stay away from ncc1701. That would be like wearing a KICK ME sticker on the back of your shirt.

I do know three of my neighbors do not password protect their Wi-Fi networks and sometimes my computer will pick those up when my laptop is coming back from sleep.

One of those networks is named after one of the X-Rated passwords on the list. I always wonder which neighbor has that network.

Ho hum, my passwords were always either mnemonicish alphanumericals+symbols, or like 15+ strings of words typed in russian in english symbols like:
'njghbvthgfhjkz - says there "thisisapasswordexample". Not very secure, but much better then this top 500 list. And probably better then top 5000ish or, maybe even top 50000ish, although there I doubt it.
