Well I got the call last night. The one I had been dreading for over a year. I knew for some time that the family pooch had been getting lumpier and lumpier. We all knew that the cancer had returned and so did the vet. Jada started to not be able to walk up stairs and started to lose her bladder control. A few days ago she started howling in pain at times. The decision was made last night. So today at 1045 PDT we put her down. This has hit me a bit harder than expected. I know we did the right thing. but damn... We've had her since she was a pup. It stings. My brother is taking it a bit rougher. I hope he realizes it was for the better. In any case that is all...

Knowing you did the right thing never makes it any easier, does it?

I hope things get a bit better soon.

Such a hard thing to do, and so sad to see a friend go. [Frown]

My mom's faithful dog is approaching that terrible day too. That will be bad, one of those things we'll probably never get over, as she is such a character.

Sorry for your loss. Try to remember the good times she had, as she was obviously a much loved pooch.

That is very sad.

Your description is just like how my dog died. I did not go back to work after we put her down. I cried a lot.

Your hurt and my hurt are different, because that was your dog and friend.

I cry with you right now. Sleep well tonight.

Much love.

My condolences.

A death in the family is never easy, and a loyal pooch _is_ a member of the family.

I'll raise a glass of whisky for Jada tonight.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. There is nothing like the unconditional love of a pet.

Never been a dog man myself... but that doesn't matter in circumstances like this - I have lost cats I have had a short time and some I have had longer (and one I had to have put to sleep at just 2 years due to kidney failure, probably from a congenital problem) and it hurts, you cry

You will hear "it was just an animal" from some and it is the call of the idiot, it was your pet and friend - often a companion since childhood - and it is a "death in the family" - and fsck anyone who says otherwise IMHO

Sorry to hear the bad news MMB [Frown]

[Frown] I know how you feel. I had to put my beagle down last year. Take time to mourn and heal and I know it may seem hollow right now but get yourself another dog in a few months. Not that you can ever replace the feelings you have for her but it does help. I know from experience.

We had to put our beloved cat Hannah down two years ago. A thyroid condition had left her thin, weak and blind, with blood pressure so high she eventually had a stroke one night. We took Hannah to the animal emergency clinic where the bad news was confirmed.

The veterinarian took the pain away, and I stayed with her as she took her last breath, so she wouldn't die lonely and afraid. The whole family cried ourselves to sleep that night. It was like losing a child, or at the very least a dear, dear friend.

We have several framed pictures of Hannah around our home, but none really captured her silky gray fur or her bright, clear yellow eyes. They certainly can't show her sweet, gentle disposition. Not a week goes by without one of us saying "Do you remember how Hannah used to ..."

It's not that we love our three current cats any less, but there will never be another Hannah. If there's a kitty heaven, we know she has all the mice, squirrels and birds she could ever chase there.

I'll be thinking of you, macmcseboy, through this difficult time. Jada will always be in your heart and memory, and although the pain will never really go away, it will diminish over time.

Peace,
CW
