Ah! So..our school hosts two Battle of the Bands each year and are usually largely successful. HOWEVER, it was always a certain grade of our Science Club (the group who runs it) that organized everything. But, they've all graduated now, leaving me and a few other hopeless souls to get it together. We know how to set up the basics (advertising, judges, refreshments, etc..) but does anyone out there have any ideas on how to make it even better?

Just make it as good as you can. Find people who have done this thing before, if possible, and do your best. Don't worry if it's the best one EVER. Just do it.

If it's rock/pop bands you're talking about then having a killer PA system is a must and getting local radio/TV involved would generate a nice amount of hype as well as the potential reward for the winners of being heard on radio or seen on TV.
If you're talking about a marching band, then I've got two possible suggestions. One is to get in touch with any local Army, Air Force or Navy bases and see if they'll supply a professional marching squad to do a demonstration (and judge).
Second is to possibly up the ante on the competition by doing a marching gymkhana where you have an optional section of the competition where bands have to complete a course that involves navigating coned/roped off areas, reversing into boxes etc. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Instead of having a succession of high school bands demonstrating their lack of musical skill, why not make it a real battle? Supply them with enough lethal weaponry, and be sure to pit contrasting styles against each other, e.g Christian folkies v Death Metal. It would certainly be an interesting evening and we would finally find out which style of music really is the hardest. ![[devil wand]](graemlins/devilwand.gif)
