Yeah, so not really much of a back story or anything...

My half sister was just into her second trimester when a scan picked up developmental defects with the baby. She miscarried over the weekend. Induced labour didn't work so she had a D&C on Tuesday night. [shake head]

I am so sorry. Having gone through a similar situation almost a year ago I know the pain she must be feeling. My condolences on her loss. [weep]

My sister lost a baby, and it was awful; she had work stress (her boss fired her because people weren't interested in buying stuff from him in Turkey just after the 10.0 earthquake hit -- and he blamed her), and it was a kick in the gut, because my other sister and I had just had our kids.

She had two boys after, but the sadness of that first loss was awful after waiting so long to get married, etc. etc. I have been so fortunate not to have experienced it firsthand, but it's hard to think of anything to say, and sometimes it's hard for anyone to hear it.

I often vote for silence simply because there are no words for times like this.

Miscarriages, particularly when it's a first pregnancy, are sadly much more common than you might think. It happened to me and my wife, though happily there were no problems with the three that followed. Jess is right though, it's one of those times when words are insufficient, and however sympathetic people are, you do feel quite alone in your misery. Time will heal, and when they do feel ready to go again, the chances of it happening the second time are small.
