I read Reinventing Date Night for Long-Married Couples (NYTimes) and my reaction was pretty much, "Well, duh."

Of course if you let your relationship sink into a rut and stagnate it's going to to be boring.

I think as a couple, maswan and I are pretty good at trying new things together. We're not running out every weekend to go bungee jumping or deep sea diving or anything, but a few weeks ago, we went to see a musical at the opera house (something we've never done together before) and in about a month, we'll probably go camping for one night, or maybe two (something he likes, but I've never done before at all).

So what do you guys do to keep novelty alive in your relationships?

Since we've got the kid now our biggest challenge is making sure we have time to relate to each other as husband and wife instead of just as Mommy and Daddy. So we try to make sure we can get a date out of the house every couple of months at least and a weekend alone at least a few times a year. Thanks to school and the economy it's ended up more like once or twice a year lately, but it's amazing what two entire days alone can do for a relationship even if the most exciting thing we do together is go to karaoke.

Well, this weekend we ran out to go paragliding. [Big Grin]

For us, considering we work together almost 24/7,the little tlmes apart help. [Razz] But we also have "family time" almost every night, where me Nitro and the cat spend some time just chillin.

We try to plan little mini trips to the beach or other places we haven't seen yet. We're also going to try to take more longer vacations on a regular basis, like at least twice a year. The week we just did in mexico was nice, but that was our first real vacation in ten or more years! With home business, it's too easy to just work all the time.
