Hello everyone. I'm a newbie (or is it noob? or n00b?) Anyway, I hail from Wisconsin, the land of cheese and beer. Come smell our dairy air! I'm a 36 yo male. Some of my geek credentials: two full size arcade machines, my own server rack, currently running 8 PC's over 4 operating systems (XP, Vista, OS X, Ubuntu), I have 10 functional ethernet jacks spread throughout the house, but no working telephone, and four video game consoles. I enjoy camping, biking, and volleyball. I work as a web developer, but my personal site is a wreck so I won't be sharing that until I get it presentation-ready. I've poked around the site a little bit and you all sound as crazy as me, so I thought I'd jump in the pool and splash around a little. Hope you don't mind.

Hayadoo, I'm a newbie too.

Madness and newbieness is good, but one question. How is it you have a technical haven in your house but...you can't seem to have a phone that works? [Razz]

I use a cell phone for all my communication needs. I've cut the tether to ma bell. I suppose if I ever sell the house I will need to restring all those wires I ripped out.

What, I'm supposed to leave the house with all these cool geeky toys here?!?!?

[Smile] I do occasionally. Woman does not live by CDs alone.

Hi Soyle!
As has already been said - nice nickname. If only you'd known you would be member 9000 you could have gone for HAL instead.

Cool numbers can be even better than cool names - my friend had a limited edition Ducati superlight - number 007. So cool . .

I had to lose the server rack, but I do have an iSeries here now, running alongside the Intel stuff (and the Newton MP2000s) and the X7500

Not as nice as Alphas, but I still love them.

Damn! You sound almost like my ex. He had a 19" rack with a myriad of SGI machines. It took up a lot of my office space. I think he had no less than 6 machines (not all running at the same time) plus his Mac. He was also a bit of an outdoorsy type and cycled alot. But why am I talking about him? Welcome to the GC Forums!!! Kick back and enjoy the ride! [crazy]

We used to have a 20 machine render farm in our office [Big Grin] It was sweet, and kept the place warm in winter!

I know what you mean. I don't think I ever had to turn on the heat in that room when a couple of the machines were running.
