Hullo all. I've been wrangling around the forums posting hello messages looking for a site as cool as this one. I haven't found it yet. Some forum moderators are NASTY as if they're on a power trip or something. One really annoying thing I've found is that if I post a link to a page I've made I get a "DON'T ADVERTISE HERE!!" when the link was posted in a "Hello, I'm Ed. Blah blah blah [insert stuff about me here] and I made a page [link] blah blah [more stuff of a general nature]." Whazzup with that?!? I don't get it. Is it a knee jerk reaction to spam? Do they think I'm a bot? I see pages being posted all over the place.

[shake head] [shake head] [shake head] [shake head]

I come here and slide right in like a greased chinchilla. Why is everyone here so cool?

Oh well.

Hmmmmm? Good question ewomack.

Maybe the BDs here are really nasty but it takes a while for them to show that side of themselves?

Wait! Don't shoot! It was all a misunderstanding! [Big Grin]

Don't worry, if we thought you were advertising for commercial reasons, we'd be exactly the same [Wink]

Nah, this place is cool, mainly because the people who hang around here are cool. Whether the cool people or the place are the reason is really a chicken/egg question, isn't it?

Because here are real Geeks who really care about conversing with other geeks of whatever persuasion without predjudice...

Real spamming - and other misdemeanors, are not well tolerated here, it is true... But otherwise join in, drink virtual coffee (or herbal tea), take a blast of the cosmic bong if it passes (or not) as takes your fancy...

Relax, you have (hopefully) found your spiritual home on the web...

Relax, read, join in and enjoy... Pass comment and receive the wisdom of geeks both older and younger than yourself...

Hell, this my home from home on the web and took me a while to find it...

It's a good place I hope you enjoy it as much as I and many others do (many of whom will no doubt be along to bid you welcome soon enough)

Enjoy...

Hi, welcome to GC! [Big Grin] I've never had the privilege to see a greased chinchilla before. That must be a sight indeed. [Eek!]

That cleared up a lot. I can sleep in perfect harmony with the universe now.

Whooo.

Ungreased is overrated by the way.

Shaved is out of the question.

Never shave a chinchilla. It will be your last. [Eek!]

Pythagoras?

Surely that is "the son of the squaw on the hide of the hippopotamus..."?

Beans are only relevant re: Blazing Saddles.... No?

Where's Wanda?

Help.....

You haven't read enough Molesworth, I can tell....

Molesworth "gorilla of 3b" is is the eponymous "hero" of a set of books by written by Geoffrey Willans and illustrated by Ronald Searle in the 50s. Done in the style of the Willam Brown or Jennings books it is set as a diary/journal by Molesworth and written "lik wot it is weeds, chiz chiz, teechers ar all rot and wot no more than to giv all boys the kane-chiz... Ther are snekes and bulys but the nimble Molesworth dodg nimbly awa..." about life at St Custards, a low grade British Public Skool (sorry, school) of the time...

Anyone who remembers the "Idi Amin" diaries from Private Eye (IIRC) will get the idea

The original canon is Down with Skool, How to be Topp, Whizz for Atoms and Back in the Jug Agane. Look for the anthology The Compleet Molesworth (ISBN 0 907516 49 1) to get the lot in one hilarious (IMHO) volume...

Imagine the St Trinians films as if blogged from inside by a St Trinian 4th Year....

Try Google - maybe it'll turn up something

Anywa, chiz rot, I will tuogh up eny swot wot disagre with me...

[Big Grin]

EDIT: Google Molesworth St Custards and get the gist....

Honestly, what makes this board so different from others is, in general, we aren't elitist. We *usually* let someone insult themselves, before we jump in and help 'em out [Razz] . And, typically, we don't judge people before they do something to make an arse of themselves... With a few exceptions when it's something someone is sensitive to [Razz]

I have to reiterate: this board is cool. I've been doing more forum hopping, and I have empirical evidence.

On another forum one of my posts was trashed for being "pointless". On yet another I was scolded by a moderator for "inserting irrelevant hyperlinks". On yet another I posted a "Hi!" and the follow-up post was "WHAT ARE YOU SELLING BOT?!?!" Which led to a long public discussion between moderators on whether or not to ban me for life like Pete Rose.

It's a rough internet out there.

[cry baby]

On a related note, hey and welcome orion, though the best way to introduce yourself would have been a "hello I'm orion" style post, not an request to look at two non existent websites.

EDIT: Good god, I've just looked at your site [shake head] I sincerely hope that's intended in irony
