My local store has the disks in stock, I'll be picking them up on the way home from work in about 3 hours.

Expect a review 4 or 5 hours after that.

If you watch 'The History Of NASA' backwards, it's about a space agency that has no manned spaceflight capability, then does low-orbit flights, then lands on the Moon.

Waiting for delivery of mine [Big Grin] And since they added the extra scenes so seamlessly to the 1st one I probably won't be certain as to what's new in this one since I have not seen it since it was in the theaters last year.

Ok why did I say "since" so many times?

JB Hi-fi.

They gots them in a day early, because it's my birthhhhdayyyy, my preciousssssss

I believe they have stores in Sin-City, and they open till 9:00 pm

$55 for the DVDs
$118 for the box with the not-very-impressive statue of Gollum.

I'll put the girls to bed in an hour or so, then there's about 4 hours to watch the movie, sh expect a review in 5 hours.

Ok, so the closing credits are running, here's my thoughts on the dvd (I'll be a bit vague - this is a spoiler-free zone)

There's about 3/4 of an hour extra stuff

The original theatrical release felt a bit disjointed to me, there was so much 'action', they had little time to flesh out the characters and their motivations. This has been rectified.

We see Faramirs relationship with his brother and father, lots more of the back-story regarding Wormtongue and the people of Rohan, and some more of Aragorn and Arwens relationship, including several scenes of Arwen speaking in Elvish, drool!

They've also added little bits here and there to journeys, so you get less of a "oh, they're there already" feeling. Some of Gollums new bits are fun. We likes Gollum, yes we does.

They also forshadow a couple of things in the third movie that anyone who's read the books would already be expecting, but it's nice to know they'll be there.

Mercifully, there's only one song, and in a fairly appropriate context, although I think they added another in the closing credits, a quite annoying song that sounds like it belongs in a James Bond movie. I don't remember that in the original.

One minor annoyance, they could have chosen a better place to break the movie (it spans 2 disks). It was kind of jarring.

Oh, and the sex scene between Gimli and Eowyn was a bit gratuitous !

All in all, the extra 3/4 of an hour is time well spent, it feels much more like a story, the characters feel much more real, and some of their actions make a lot more sense.

My copy shipped Thursday. It may arrive today (monday the 17th) (may have already arrived as I write this but since I'm at work I cannot tell), but most likely I won't get it untill tomorrow (or [Eek!] later)

I might try to organize a group watching of it-we'll see.

None of them should arrive or be on the store shelves until 11/18. Stores can get hefty fines if they sell a video, CD, game or software package before the official release date.

The sales guy at Circuit City pointed out the huge box of them behind the counter last week when I was there, of course he wouldn't sell me one until the 18th.

I don't think that's going to happen with the LOTR trilogy. The extended editions are complete enough as it is.

Bet it'll happen for the Matrix series, though. The missing DTS soundtrack on both DVDs so far is a dead giveaway.

The extended versions of the 1st 2 films are going to be in theaters next month if you want to see them on the big screen.

I'd be interrested to see the extended versions of them on a big screen with big sound. I haven't even seen the extra scenes on DVD yet.

I really liked the Fellowship of the Ring but Two Towers was more of a disappointment to me. It isn't just that they messed up the plot from the books (to be perfect would be impossible) but it was done for the wrong reasons it seemed. The Fellowship seemed very true to the spirit of the books but the Two Towers seemed more like an average Hollywood action movie loosely based on Tolkien's work.

That isn't to say it was a terrible movie, I just had higher hopes for it after the first.

I just checked the listings (http://lordoftherings.net/trilogy/index.html) and there are no theaters within 150 miles of my location playing them.
