One of the twins fell on the hardwood floor at his home and fractured his skull. No paralysis or internal bleeding so far, but those of you who are religious, please keep him in your prayers if you don't mind. Thank you.

Oh snupy, I am so sorry. When it rains it pours, doesn't it? I will definitely remember you and them in my prayers tonight.

They say that bad things happen in threes. Let us hope they are wrong.
The fact that he's had no bleeding is a very good sign. It's also to his advantage that he's young. Young brains have great plasticity - it's amazing what children can pull through.

Xanthine, I've been looking on google for awhile now and can't find any specific info. He's 10 weeks old-isn't the brain/skull still very fragile?
Thank you, PB.

It could be worse.
My cult (2 rats, a tortise and a a tortiseshell killen) is all praying for them.
I thought that at 10 weeks old, 1 hit could cause serious damage.
Looks like the little guy has a gaurdian angel.

At ten weeks the skull probably isn't done getting hard yet anyway (note the soft spot), so while it isn't as strong as an adult skull, it isn't as fragile either, if that makes any sense.
Xanthine is right. At that age, a doctor could scoop out an entire hemisphere of the his brain and he would still develop (probably, mostly) normally. It seems to be specifically designed to have great fault tolerance for at least as long as it takes us to figure out how to move about without bashing our heads against things too often.
Really sorry to hear about that, though. I would pray for him, if I believed in such things. Instead, I shall hope for the best.

Snupy- My prayers are with you and your family. It will work out fine. Babies are tougher than people give them credit for sometimes.

I'm sorry to hear about his injury. If they're not seeing bleeding or swelling, things should end up just fine. You'll be a little overprotective for 10 or 20 years, but that will wear off eventually.

Thanks for all your positive vibes and prayers, everyone-it worked!
He had the "best" kind of skull fracture you can have, apparently. They released him this afternoon, and he should be fine. When I held him in that hospital room, all I could think of was how horrible this could have been, and how lucky we are. The reason for the fall? His 3 year old brother was trying to kiss him and knocked the chair over.
The most disturbing part was listening to the social worker talk so matter-of-factly about why she had to follow the mom home and check out the "scene of the accident" to make sure it was feasible. Of course with his emotional "auntie" at the hospital, and grandma and great-grandma at home, she realized it was all fine. I think it's great children that young are automatically protected in this manner, but when you think of the reasons why they have to be...
