Well, i was at the store last night and i decided i should try and get an the RPG band wagon. Like buy an RPG game for once. So i see there are two out there that will run on mac os X. Dialbo 2 and Bualder's Gate. The question, is for someone who has never before played this type of game, which should i get? or should i just wait a few weeks and go back to getting other great games like, medal of honor?

Bah. These aren't real RPGs.

Wizardry VII: Crusaders of the Dark Savant. Now that is an RPG! (Wizardry VI: Bane of the Cosmic Forge is good also, but you don't need to play it in order to enjoy VII.)

And if you aren't totally spoiled already, you can dip a bit farther back in the classics pool and try Bard's Tale (I, II and III) or Ultima IV. The graphics on these older games are a bit primitive by today's standards.

If you have access to an Amiga or an Atari ST, check out the original Dungeon Master. There was probably a PC port as well. But you won't appreciate the full experience unless you play it on an ST or Amiga and realize that this incredible game is running from ONE 720kB floppy diskette. That includes the space taken by up to 4 saved games.

Graph paper and #2 pencils sold separately.

Hmm...

Baldur's Gate is a very good little RPG... But it takes a bit to get into.

Diablo II isn't really an RPG, it's more of a "hack and slash" game with a deeply immersive storyline. But it has a few aspects of RPG games (Item collection, spells, leveling up, distributing experience points) and probably would be the best thing to start with. If you can handle the whole character management of that without thinking it tedious and boring, then you can probably safely move on to more immersive Rpgs such as Baldur's Gate.

And if you're like me, you'll end up getting Neverwinter Nights as well, and go nuts.

Oh yeah, and if you do get DII, make sure you buy the Expansion as well. The original release was okay, but the Expansion adds so much that it's definately worth the extra money to pick it up.

If you have the bandwidth to download the large files, demos for both can be downloaded for free off the internet. With those, you can see which actually appeals to you most and then purchase that one.

ahh, demo's. I guess i will download a demo of DII tomorrow. Or see if it is on a mac addict cd. It sounds like DII is the obvious choice though. But first. bed.
