I have a project for Intro to AI to do... Any ideas on a good project to write an Intelligent Agent for?

Current ideas:
- Serach engine
- 3D Tic Tac Toe player(2D would be too easy, apperantly [Roll Eyes] ... sok, 3D is cooler anywho (even if I don't add a pretty GUI)
- Reversi player
- Go player
- Ghess player
- Mud monstor (a bot to run arround a series of "room" nodes and collect things, kill people or some such)
- web spider of some sort... (perhaps attached or in addition to the search engine)

My partner for the projectin the project wants to do a game or toy problem... I am leaning towards the search engine or spider... So, any ideas would be apprecaited...

Battleships [Smile] Make a Battleships playing program [Smile]

(Course, if it connected via TCP/IP to the game I made, that would be even more fun [Wink]

I suspect, though, that the nature of Battleships is a tad obscure for AI, really, unless you wanted to see if it could learn how a player tends to place ships, or learn an effective strategy for placing pegs.

I love it ui, we should make it like IM or IRC. Since yours works, you could publish your communications specs and messaging protocols. Then we can start an open source project for multiplatform compatibility [Wink] But we can't call it Battleship or we'll get whomped for trademark violation. [Big Grin]

I'll run it past my partner along with some other ideas... I like the idea... I take it that you have only a mac client now? I can write a JAVA client (standalone and applet) because I'll need most of the socket stuff written for the AI unit anywho... I don't know what language we are going to use yet either, but JAVA would make more sence in this instance (for a number of reasons)...

If we don't do an AI for Battleship, I'd still like to write (or help write) a java client.

You know, I am talking absolute fucking bullshit [Smile] Whatever client I thought I'd made - I have not... I am going senile... Caffeine shortage? (possibly, I don't drink it in the quantities that most of you do).

Mister Boo: Are you thinking of that topic about a person who was bored and wanted something to write, and I listed a whole load of ideas for online turn-based gaming apps, including a server? That's the sort of stuff I'd like to see, but it's not anything of use to GameMaster.

As for program, it's Connect-4 that I made for TCP/IP - my Battleships implemention is for the ER5 OS with OPL runtime, such as a Psion palmtop. I have wanted to make TCP/IP Battleships, but never did.

Heh, server running several games... one simple protocol... Yeah, I've had that dream too.. but the fact I don't have the time keeps coming up... I need sleep. I have a few more ideas to work with... we'll see what my partner thinks...
