I don't think they've ever made a profit, have they? Now sit back and watch as MS screw it up... just like they did with Hotmail, etc.

At least it's not Facebook!

I'm still inclined to wind down my Skype account - but I would have scrapped it w/credit intact if Fb bought them. :/ IMHO, Fb is actually more evil than M$. [Frown]

On the bright side, Canada made 500M on the deal thanks to the Canada Pension Plan investing in in it 2 years ago.

As long as 3 keep giving me free Skype I'm not that bothered. I have a PAYG mobile with 3 that I bought for £20 a couple of years ago, and I use it solely to use Skype when on placement in the middle of nowhere with no internet access. Never paid for any top-ups [Big Grin]

To be honest, I don't have a huge problem with MS getting on board. Sure, there are lots of free and technically superior options for VoIP, but I find Skype invaluable for communicating with people in the developing world (and the developed world for that matter) who have minimal understanding of IT. There is an advantage in having a large corporation organising everything for the non-tech savvy.

The online number feature is also extremely useful, IMO. My OH's is a military family, so they use one of the online numbers so we can just ring a London number to reach them in whichever part of the Southern hemisphere they're currently in (unless we just use Skype for free...).
