Hmm ... wasn't Troi supposed to be a character on DS9? But then the actress declined or sth., so they ended up introducing Kira Nerys?

No, I think it was Ensign Ro. IMDb could probably tell you.

By a shear coincidence, this latest cartoon appeared while I was preparing to make a comment about the potential dangers that might be caused by blogging the affairs at work!

I included a link to the cartoon, along with the yahoo story at my blog.

Or I could.

It was indeed Ensign Ro (or Lieutenant Ro, as it would have been by then) who was to have originally been the second-in-command of Deep Space Nine. Michelle Forbes, however, didn't want to make the commitment to being a series regular, so series creators Rick Berman and Michael Piller reimagined the role in such a way as to create even more dramatic possibilities for conflict: make the second-in-command a Bajoran militia officer, not a Starfleet one.

Hence Major Kira Nerys, played expertly by Nana Visitor. (Who caused one of the strangest plot twists of all time when she turned up pregnant by Alexander Siddig, who played Dr. Bashir...they riffed something about having to implant Keiko O'Brien's unborn baby into Major Kira. Nice save! [Smile] )

And, is it just me, or does anyone else think Deanna Troi looked way better in a real spacesuit than she did in the "boob uniform"? Sometimes there are advantages to a more subtle approach. (Which, of course, they completely threw out the window with Seven of Nine and T'Pol.)

Did she ever get together with Bashir? Or just Odo?

Kira did get together with Odo, but only after her relationship with Vedek Bareil ended (when Bareil died). She also had a relationship with Shakaar somewhere in there. But she always found Bashir kind of annoying. (Bashir, in turn, had the hots for Jadzia Dax, but didn't get together with her until she became Ezri Dax.)

In some respects, DS9 kind of resembled a soap opera, huh? [Big Grin]
