My boss’s beliefs of what we have “always” done and how we have “always” worked and what was agreed upon seems not to be reliant on what was always done, how we always worked, or what was agreed upon but what would have been most convenient for him to have occurred at any given moment. ¦-!

no matter if there is a signed protocol of the work to eb done with his signature on it.

Hey...that's a new perspective to me on things. I guess I'd appreciate the ability to get /real/ feedback, but I can see the 'taint-proof' nature of it as well. Still, I'm just commiserating with someone about a potentially horrible 'decision' made without great thought. :/

In general, I think the best bosses are the ones that don't necessarily have much technical knowledge, but trust their team and instead, focus on clearing the way and making sure they get the resources they need, and are willing to go to bat for them, if need be.

A modicum of understanding would be nice, but not necessary if they can manage to get themselves out of the way. The qualities that generally impress the HR and management sorts that are involved in the hiring/promotion process (the ability to schmooze and play politics) are, I think, in shorter supply in technical and scientific fields.

I forget where I was going with that. Did I ever mention I'm easily distracted?
