____ There seems to be a headlong rush to throw out any analog tech, and replace it with Digital.

____ Cell Phones once you get out of the cities do Digital Cell phones work as well as their analog conterparts??

____ Television is it really better, I see a lot of overdriven over color saturated picture, but what about people in Fringe areas. Out here on the hill top I have a VHF/UHF broadband plus amplifier antenna. Plus we have DirecTV. Being a member of SkyWarn having the local station become affected by rain fade in not good during a CallOut. On a good weather evening our digital TV will get Sixty one Channels off our over the air antenna. Add a few stoms and over half of those disappear. One station that used to have a killer signal on analog goes away with digital just when it storms.

____ Audio, CDs are an average of the music, thats why Tubes Rock. Once you design a transister circuit to have as much head room as a tube amplifier, you have a beast that could distroy the speaker systems.

____ Is analog better, in most cases. Many things are better with Digital logic, but not every thing.

I would say on average over all, the quality is the same,...

but with analog, the deviation of quality is much greater, with the possibilty for better quality and on the flip side, equal possibilty for lower quality.

For actually getting work done, sure, digital computers are better. For style, though? Babbage's Analytical Engine will always be cooler and more fascinating to watch.

Although Babbages engine is mechanical, it is still digital.

The science museum (in London) have a calculator which is analogue, and uses the flow of water to demonstrate the economy. I've also seen an analogue calculator to perform Fourier transforms, but it apparently was never reliable.
Slide rules could probably be called analogue computers, and can be superior for small calculations.

____ My real Bitch is with the US FCC. By going Digital they can sell more Spectrum Leases, more channels of BS the TV is not better its hype. Same with Cell Phones Narrower Band width more Leases, less range More towers, more leases to transmit.

____ So how long until Digital Refridgerators, Vacuum Cleaners, Garbage Disposals.
