They were supposed to come and set up the cable in my new apartment today [which, btw, also includes the cable modem] and they never showed. How am I supposed to inhabit a place with no internet connection???? It's like going back to the stone age. Arrrrg.

So now my choices are stay with my parents [who have internet] until they can fit me in again [which won't be until next week at the earliest] -or- sweat it out with no internet. This sucks.

Last time a company did that to me (Ma Bell), I wrote them a letter.

"I took off 8 hours of work. Based on my salary, $X/yr, divided by 52 weeks, divided by 40 hours, that's $x/hr. I'm deducting $x from my account, you're crediting me for it, since you didn't show up and now I'll have to unnecessarily take more time off of work to be there."

The 8 hours is because Ma Bell just goes, "we'll be there between 9 and 5 on the day."

.. they credited me.

comcast is actually pretty diligent in setting up appointments, promising a 2hr time range and $20 if they are even a minute late.

While that's a nice gesture and thought, there is absolutely no prayer of getting such a promise out of Ma Bell nor Rogers here.

DNM...
Too Bad you don't have Shaw... The have a nice self install option. All you have to do is call in the modem SN then wait 5 to 30 mins for it to progagate in the system then away you go....

The ISP I work for will be offering cable as of .. like.. next week here in Canada. We allow (and prefer) self-installs too. But for now, we can only service places where Rogers can. Shaw is coming in the next few weeks.

It was Comcast, actually. And they decided that they could fit me in this Friday.

Before you get it installed, you might want to tell them that you want the $29.99 Limited cable TV + High speed deal. It's for a whole year too. They have other ones for different levels of TV subscriptions. Also they offered me free installation. It was really a sweet deal. Since they rubbed your rubarb, I'd suggest giving them a hard time until they buckle. Most people I know who argue with the cable company usually get something out of it.
