Wrecker Drivers and their abilities. Where to begin. When our old van died, I mean died. we went and bought a replacement. So at some point we needed to get rid of the old van. One of the local salvage steel companies has a program that they send a wrecker to retrieve the vehicle and haul it away, and pay you the scrap metal rate. So the connections were made,

This morning a young lady called and stated she needed directions to our abode. Well she arrived about an hour later. Well she arrived and got turned around to load the van. Now at this point I would have hooked up the chains needed to pull the van up onto the flatbed, nope she ran the slide down under the front then attempted to get her body and the chains under or into the space left. At his point I informed the young lady that she had an hydraulic oil leak, yup drizzling out of one of the hoses.. She activated the winch and pulled the van onto the bed of the truck. She then grabbed the lever that lowers the front of the bed OIL sprayed every where. Until the pump emptied the tank. At this point she is stuck, she cannot lift the feet of the truck, and the bed is tipped up.

Cell phone time, she calls back to where ever she came from and told them she was stuck behind our barn. about forty five minutes later my phone rings, it was the drivers sister and she was lost getting here. The sister arrived in a car and a few minutes later knocked on the back door, she wanted to know if I had a wrench smaller than the one she had, I provided a wrench and they started removing the leaky hose, after a few minutes they knocked again and asked for the outside water to be turned on, so as to hose each others arms off.

At this time they are en-route to get a new hose made.

Right now they are threading the new hose through the frame of the lift bed and back to the control valve body, I sure hope that they remembered to bring some hydraulic oil for the system. Well the van is gone and we are at the salvage yard getting the check. The purser was wondering what took so long?

The Purser at the recycling center had the rest of the story. The towing company and garage is owned by the two young ladies father. They have worked at the garage for quite a few years, around their father and other mechanics. The first of August the owner took a vacation leaving these ladies in charge.

This was the first wrecker call that this young lady had done solo. In time they may improve.

Can't believe you missed the opportunity to post a pic of two young women covered in oil.

I guess I am getting soft in my old age, I also was beginning to fear that we were going to have a larger Lawn Ornament.
