Domestic Pets and Wildlife.
Thursday morning I attempted to let our cat out as that is what she usually wants to do at Five AM. However Thursday she stood at the door and did not go out, in fact she recoiled away from the door. Being still dark I wondered what was up, but she did not bother me to let her out. After sun up I went out to do a walk about and found the remains of a Rabbit in the driveway. from the blood stains it appears the the rabbit met his/her demise near our back deck then was carried to the driveway. There were no paw prints in the snow like a Coyote would make so I came to the conclusion that it must have been an OWL. I wonder if while at the door our cat had smelled the fight that the rabbit lost and did not want to be the next victim.
The Bird of Prey/Rabbit battle must have occurred some time between Nine PM, when the dog went out to relieve herself and Five AM when the cat decided against going out. I was out while the dog was out and would have noticed the rabbit remains in the drive.
