Wow. That's a lot of talent showcased right there. I especially like the colored lights. [Smile]

Now, where's Xanthine? When she's finished scaling the heights of ice in Alaska, she should hop the ocean and tame those horses in China. [Wink]

Hey, snupy popped back in for a visit. How are things? I was just wondering how you were going the other day.

Been laying low for the past month or so, trying to recover from the sudden and very traumatic death of one of my cats. I woke up to find him lifeless and already stiff on the couch where I had just been cuddling with him the night before. He'd never been sick at all-most likely a heart attack.

It's surprising to me how much more traumatized I was than years ago when I had to put his brother to sleep. I guess it's the harsh reality of death that is not carried out behind a closed door, and the suddenness of it, I suppose.

I also can't believe the utter pain and grief of it all. After 15 years, it is like losing a part of me. I still tear up just writing this. But, knowing him, I think he just wanted to avoid that 8-hour plane ride in cargo! Typical man. [Wink]

Anyway, for the good news: the paperwork(LOTS of it) and packing are in motion, I'll be meeting my future in-laws in the UK over the Easter holiday and am nervous as hell, and my target date for the move is the end of August. Lots of loose ends to wrap up in the meantime.

Hope your situation is improving, csk. PM me if you want to get me up to speed.

Hello to everyone else!

These pics were just too amazing not to share. [Smile]

ps: ok, wtf? All the gremlins I tried to put in skipped to the end of the text(I had to put the symbols in). I haven't been gone that long, have I?? [Confused]

snup, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. [weep]

I know what it's like to lose a cat that's been so long in your life.. it's devastating. At least it sounds like he didn't suffer... and to die on the couch... that's probably the dream of most cats. [Happytears]

Nice to have you back.

Sorry to hear that [Frown] . The cat I most liked of my mother-in-laws two cats died since the last time I was there, I really missed her not being around (the cat that is. My mother-in-law was very much around).

All very exciting, and I hope the future in-law thing goes well. Good stuff!

Well, I'm coping better and better, but the situation itself seems to be worsening a little. I'm intending to post a thread sometime soonish, but I haven't got to it yet. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for dropping in, it's great to see you around again.

I hate to do the comparison thing, but I hope it's some comfort knowing your cat died on a nice, warm couch where s/he was loved.

My younger sister "adopts" strays (meaning she feeds them if they wander by our house). She's nourished a bunch of them through the years, but only one has died (that we know of) and therein lies the story.

One of her cats liked to lay/lie on the top step to our backdoor where we had one of those berber-type carpet samples as a doormat. We noticed that she hadn't been eating as much and appeared to be more sluggish than normal. One morning when I got up to go to work, I walked down the steps and found the cat layinglying against the bottom step, dead. Not having enough time to do anything more than notice it, I continued on to work, thinking that Mom would know what to do with it.

That evening, after Mom came home, she exclaimed, "Oh! Did you guys see that the cat died while we were away today?" Apparently Mom had walked past the cat not noticing that it had died. [Eek!]

I think we called the city's animal control people to take care of it for us. My sister mourned for days. [Frown]

And yes, welcome back to the boards, Snupy. I was reading the SuperFan list and IIRC, your name was on their as one who's been slightly AWOL. 'Tis good to have you back, if only for a brief time. [Smile]

Hi snupy! I was wondering where you'd been! I'm sorry about your cat. He was your friend for 15 years - why be surprised his death is upsetting? I'm still trying to forgive my parents for putting the dog to sleep before I could get into town to say goodbye.

Those sculptures are beautiful. Far too beautiful for me to start sticking ice tools and crampons into. [Smile]

Hey, snupy! I know we've had our moments on the boards, but I've gotten over myself and miss you around here as well!

Sorry to hear about your kitty [Frown] . I realize it's not the same, but when I was seven I had a hamster named Pepper whom I loved dearly for almost two and a half years until his tragic, odd death (ran over by a car (we would let him roam the house, and my dad left the patio door open)). I still think about him constantly and celebrate his birthday - Valentine's Day - every year. I know you'll pull through, you're a strong woman.

Sorry to hear of your loss..

Lost several cats over the years and it is never pleasant...

Think I cried most for my poor Merlin - put down at 21 months with congenitally shot kidneys... Such a lovely little cat who never had the chance to enjoy more than the beginning of his life...

But I cried over each and every one:

Smokey to RTA at about 22months. We nicknamed him Ninja Deathstar because that was how he was. He lived fast and died young...

Arthur (Merlin's brother at about 6 yrs to RTA) Never really recovered from the loss of his brother... More Garfield than "street fighting man" and never really coped with a change of location... Sadly missed...

Currently have two sub two year toms. Sammy and Toby. Unfortunately they remind me horribly of my previous pair, Arthur and Merlin... Mostly as Sammy is fat and healthy and Toby seems to be prone to any bug that is going round....

Doh! Serious threadjack alert....

Sorry, rambling...

Welcome back and "feel the love" y'know...

Sad news, but you will get over it in time one way or another....

[cry baby]

It's ok, Cap'n. I don't want to start a fight here-she didn't mean anything by that, and did preface it by saying, "I know it's not the same".

What struck me more was her comment about me being a "strong woman", which is the EXACT opposite of the judgement she declared about me in her infamous "what I think of everyone" thread.
It seems she has grown up a bit since then, so let's cut her some slack. I would prefer that she not say anything further about me.

The main reason for my decision to leave was the breakdown of the personal relationships I had developed from here. It broke my heart. Anyone who has been around and knows the history of the UK trip can figure out by who doesn't post here anymore what I'm talking about. To those who know who they are and may be lurking occasionally: I miss you. That trip was one of the wonderful memories of my life, and the catalyst to me wanting to move there, so I thank all who were a part of it.

That said, I do think these boards have changed and now cater to a younger demographic. They lack, with a few exceptions(mostly from the old-timers) the sincere, meaningful and thought-provoking threads that first drew me here. Don't get me wrong-there was fighting and nonsense then, too, but not like now. Give me back Nate anytime-at least he was interesting and consistent!

Wow...I can't believe I went on like this. I apologize.

Yes, I'd certainly agree things have changed. For better or worse, who knows. It's hard to compare when it's so different. But I must say, I'm curious to know if others feel the same about the "balance" of the boards. Is there a lack of serious, meaty threads? Is it the people who are different or absent making the difference? Has it to do with who was around when you first started coming here?

And yes, I miss the aforementioned UKians too, it'd be great to see more of you (or at all for that matter) around here.

Yes, things have changed a lot even in the short time I have been here. I don't really think it is any better or worse. When you have a community where people are constantly coming and going that happens. [ohwell] Maybe if I stay another two years it will evolve into a more intellectual forum, or maybe it will be nothing but threads of pun-fests. Who knows? They say that the only thing constant is change.

Hmm...I was trying to think of something meaningful to say, but really can't at the moment. I think sleep is in order for me now. I could reminisce, but nothing changes the facts of the present, and that is the only timeline I can be worried about now, as there is no changing the past.

Who doesn't miss Nayt? [Wink] Ironically enough, the closest we might have to Nayt these days is Rhonwyyn, but I must say he was really consistent with his views. [Razz] I mean, there was *no* swaying him from the 'girls are icky' standpoint, or anything of the sort. [Wink] Whether or not it was all an experiment...I neither know, nor care.

I miss some of the sharp techincal and non-technical observations by some of our members who are either posting in limited spurts, or not at all these days - such as Bregalad, Swiss, Lost, and a few others who will remain nameless, either by choice or forgetfulness. (A quiet hello goes out to a bloke who bears my GN/SN initials, though. [Smile] )

Ahh...and who can forget fascinating topics that touch on all bases, like being...petrified. [Big Grin]

*sigh* I'm not entirely sure why I'm posting this...or much else for that matter...but I am, and I'll leave it at that. [Smile] Time for sleep.
