You know, we all want to change the world.

But rumor has it a settlement in the long-running Apple Computer and Apple Music trademark battle could make Apple Music a major shareholder of Apple computer and bring Sir Paul McCartney to Apple's B.O.D.

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88724

Will that mean One Infiite Loop will be renamed Penny Lane? Can I get a Strawberry Fields Forever colored iPod?

And does this make Bill Gates Mean Mister Mustard, and his goofy monkey boy sidekick a real Nowhere Man?

I suspected it all along, but maybe this lawsuit was because Paul wanted to hold Steve Jobs hand?

I know my heart went zoom when I crossed that room and held an iPod's hand in mine!

Well shake it up, BABY!

Oh and for you youngsters, Paul McCarney really was in a band with Julian Lennon's dad.

Giving up a major slice of the company for the rights to a name?

That would make me twist and shout !!

Wouldn't it just be easier to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary of Apple, call it iCorp, let them be the makers of iPods, and tell that other Apple mob to go and do it in the road?

btw - nice to have you back Colonel Pepper, and congratulations on the promotion.

M'kay....I am not a huge beatles fan.....but I do know 'that song' was not about LSD....in fact Paul, or John ( I don't recall which) got the inspiration from one of their childrens paintings.

Anywho, Paul is a little bit punchy these days I think Chapman's bullet(s) would have served the music world better if they were in McCartney.

You can probably add this rumor to the others such as: Sony buys Apple; Disney buys Apple; (insert name here) buys Apple. Maybe this is another one of Woz's practical jokes. [Wink]

And welcome back Colonel! [Beard of Peter Gabriel!] [thumbsup]

Well, Cap'n Vic,

Having been a child in a divorce where my parents declared that I had to choose a favorite -- and the rules were once I chose it was permanent -- I now sport a permanant aversion to choosing sides after any divorce, even in the case of the Beatles.

John was a tremendous lyricist. Paul had a really great knack for melody. I think it's easy to curse Sir Paul because of those awful lyrics he attached to some catchy melodies during his "Wings" era. And some folks will never forgive him for "Ebony & Ivory."

So what if Paul had a tendancy to get "fluffy?," He did lighten up John who had such a wonderful way with words, but did have a tendency to scold. Re-listen to "Revolution," all through his last album, "Double Fantasy."

Once you realize Paul was the better melody maker, but wrote lyrics to the sappy side and John was more serious and loved his word plays, yet had his ruts in terms of chord progressions, then you can see who wrote the main parts of what songs, and who wrote the "middle 8" bars. They were ideal foils for each other.

Was it any wonder that George Harrison's album was the best selling solo effort after the breakup?

Wierd fact -- I still have the receipt. I purchased the Double Fantasy album just minutes before John was shot. I listened to it five times before going to bed that evening, and felt sick when I heard the news that day (oh boy, about that lucky man who made the grade?). I've only listened to it once since.

As for some of that John Lennon scolding, it's also evident in the Rolling Stones tune, "Miss You," which Mick Jagger openly acknowledges was written by John after Yoko kicked him out of the house. "I was walking in the park (Central Park -- he lived adjacent to it in the Dakota) I was walking after dark. Girl, I miss you." It's Yoko. In the song, in typical John fashion, he scolds the Puerto Rican girls "who are just dieing to meet you."

And speaking of Yoko. If you want to curse anybody, now she's an easy target. Except to Chapman.

I love the comic's line:

"I hate that John David Chapmann, the guy who killed John Lennon. He had a clear shot at Yoko, and missed." Dark, to be sure, but fair.

I must say, the fantasy of Apple and Apple getting together was a sweet daydream.

Reading about George WMD Bush's holy war, I've had this tune in my head, it goes, "Imagine there's no religion."

Whilst in the main I agree, I think it's too easy to label Paul as the better tunesmith - he did write 'Blackbird', didn't he? A song which is lyrically as well as musically superb. John was musically more progressive - not just in his lyrics. Some of the very best Beatles tunes were penned by John, e.g. 'Happiness is a warm gun', 'Come together'. Paul's tunes hark back to his music hall upbringing (via his parents) - i.e., a leftover from pre-war times. Just listen to 'When I'm Sixty-Four' - it could have been recorded by George Formby.

Good point, Yoko would have been a much better parking spot for that bullet.

John and Paul were great together. Maybe, for me at least it is like the Jim Morrison thing...he (John) is cooler because his death came when he peaked as an artist. I like the old Beatles stuff, but seeing/hearing Paul now is just kind of sad. People want to see him because he is the last great Beatle.....not because of his current work.

Thanks for bringing George into the mix also Colonel. I love his Wilberrys (sp) stuff, he matured with age, like a fine wine.

Ah, Yes! Spungo!

How careless of me, I used the word fluffy, when perhaps I should have used sentimental.

Certainly the heart and soul of "Sergeant Pepper" owes a lot to the music hall tradition. Indeed, I always considered "Yellow Submarine" some kind of ode to public houses, singable tunes and many pints of amber ale.

My goodness a bunch of old music geeks here chatting about life before disco. I almost feel the need to use the word, "whippersnappers."

Now how's that flock of yours?

Still curling up in front of old reruns of "All Creatures Great and Small," with that adorable ewe of yours, are you?

Well Ho Ho Ho,

Let's just chew ver the old hacks stuff again shall we?

How about this for a radical view...

Four disparate lads from Liverpool with a range of talents are picked out by "the media" to be a BIG THING.

They're lucky enough that they have enough shared history and mix of talentsto keep them in the public eye for quite a long time... However eventually the pressure gets too much and they reach a point where some of them just need time out... Nedia announce "Beatles Split"

All members show individual talent but somehow the whole was more than just the sum of its parts...

The loss of any human being should be deplored, and even though we'd all wish the worst on "someone" every once and again can any one of you "really" say you wish Yoko dead in place of John...? How do you think he would have considered such opinions? How would he have coped without her in such a scenario? Love is blind and I don't think anyone can deny that he was"in love" with Yoko"

Hmm....take an informal poll of your friends, I assume you have some.

Ask: John or Yoko?

Ask: John or Paul?

The answer shouldn't be a surprise.

Does pop culture really need a wailing asian woman in a potato sack?

To quote Denis Leary (yes I know I quote comics a lot.)

We live in a country where omeone put a whole bunch of bullets in John Lennon, and NOT ONE IN YOKO ONO WHO WAS STANDING RIGHT BESIDE HIM! WHY GOD!? WHY?!

Forgive me for being a sick fsck, but there's a whole WHACK of people on this planet I'd be wonderfully happy to see dead, like George W Bush,
or Paul Bernardo.

And given the choice between those bullets going into Mr Lennon or Ms. Ono, I'd say, "Yoko please."

And there I was thinking that tormenting the world with Celine Dion and Avril Lavigne was enough grounds (Avril's attempt at Chop Suey is possibly the worst musical effort I've ever heard, bar none)
