The new Photo Gallery is up... Forum Folks. You can access it via the little menus on the main forum page. Hope you enjoy, ... it's not perfect, but it's a start, and I'll be adding group shot sections and whatever else may come along.. perhaps one day that mythical GeekCulture Con. [Wink]

Thanks to uilleann for hosting the Photo Album for the past while, and to all those who have sent in their photos. [Smile]

Hmmm, next stop.. the yearbook. [Wink]

*sigh* Nice of someone to tell me... had I not been around in IRC at a couple of opportune moments, I'd have gone on totally oblivious to this new one, seeing as no-one had the decency to tell me (seeing as I now have to relink the satellite pages). What the hell is wrong with you all?

Besides, the new one has a count of 68 images, and the old one has 71. Given the addition of Snaggy and Nitrozac to the new one, that makes a difference of 5 images missing from the new one that probably no-one would even realise weren't there.

Seriously, consult me before you do something like this and then I'd tell you when new images are sent to mine.

I like the slide show.

Did you get the new pic I sent? It's a bit less deranged.

*sigh*

The following images are all missing from the new gallery (and Katie, that includes you):
MTB_Babe thumbnail full-size
WinterSolstice thumbnail
Katie thumbnail
Gibbonboy thumbnail full-size
bull3t thumbnail full-size
Fixerbob thumbnail
(links point to the image files from the old album which remain live for anyone who has used them as profile images or elsewhere)

The diff against the two name lists showed other changes to usernames where no-one bothered to tell me about the change (and since when was username editing re-enabled...?). I should be glad to no longer have to bother with this crap.

uilleann, since obviously you never picked up on this little quirk of human behavior, let me fill you in: you wanna know what's going on, you gotta be around to watch. Snaggy hasn't re-enabled anything. Evilbibo made a polite request and Snaggy did it for him very quietly and without fuss. I know this because I was there when it happened. If you'd been lurking around a bit before leaping back in here, you would have known that too.

Hello Uilleann! I'd recognise that sigh anywhere. Good to see you back old chum (slaps Uilly heartily on the back). Why don't you stick around a bit, everyone's a bit too cheerful around here, the place could use some of your Eeyore style gloom. [Wink]

And seriously, there is no need to be upset. Everyone is very grateful for your efforts in creating, hosting, and maintaining the photo album, and it was a good enough idea that S & N have decided to incorporate it into the forum. You should feel flattered not hurt.

Uillean, could you stop with the negative "crap" please? It's completely unnecessary.

I challenge you that your next three, consecutive posts be positive, encouraging, and uplifting for you and others. I bet you'll find it difficult, but I think it would be a good exercise for you and the health of our little community.

I bet you will be able to do it. Anyone else care to bet?

/me isn't touching that one...

BTW, Nitro, that little message icon is completely at odds with your avatar.

So I looked through the new gallery...is that an elusive picture of Snaggy I see? Where are the rumored tentacles?

Damn well I won't, I feel very let down by Snaggy, that he just tossed me aside here – as though he’s got his finger stuck up at me. Given he's a control freak, it does seem too much to expect him to actually consult with me over the album changeover, but it is something he has to learn to do, to avoid making a mess of it and losing a pile of photos in the process, especially updates made to mine after he collected all the files.

If his argument is that I'm too distant from GC to run it, which would be fair enough, then let him have the decency to e-mail, IM or PM me to discuss how he feels, and then we could have agreed on a nice changeover plan – I read all my mail (yes, even the one on the old album site, it's merely an alias to mine), my IM details are fully public, and several people in IRC were in contact with me when I wasn't around who could pass on a message or confirm my e-mail address. Even if only to tell me not to post any more submissions but to mail him the files instead, would have been nice, so that the changeover was nice and smooth.

However, I discover one day that, had I not been around in IRC at the right times (asleep, eating, whatever) I would not have found out at all. And why it is beneath Snaggy to just leave me a quick mail to tell me what's happened, I really don't know.

It's just depressing to be treated like nonexistent entity, is all, and to watch the new album get botched as a result. Sadly, such low standards seem to be perfectly acceptable here now.

But if uilleann jumped then who would the world revolve around??? The sun?? Heresy!

uilleann, this *is* Snaggy's site. He has the perfect right to do as he pleases with it, and unless he openly invites a suggestion he doesn't have to listen to a word we say. After all, it puts food in his fridge and in Nitrokitty's dish. The fact that he does speaks well of him. He has said before he wants to move the album onto his own servers. Maybe not consulting you wasn't the most politic thing to do, but since you did more or less drop off the face of the earth, how was he to know you were even maintaining the album?

We are a community, this is true, but we aren't an anarchy or even a democracy. We have a pair of leaders known as Nitrozac and Snaggy. Ultimately, the buck (Canadian, US or Australian), pound, euro or whatever other currency you use stops with them. If you don't like it you can complain and make a fuss, which is something you, my dear uilleann, excel at, but in the end the decisions are theirs to make and no one else has the right or priviledge to gainsay that.

I wouldn't even call this a botched job. I like the slide-show feature, the pop-up stuff, and the overall look and feel of it better than the old one. That, of course, is simply my worthless opinion on the matter.

uilleann, you are taking this far too personally. I'm sure putting up a new photo album as part of the site was not meant as an attack on you, but you seem intent on taking it as one.

I've been around for nearly a year now and although I don't frequent IRC, I have never seen anything from Snaggy that would indicate he's a control freak. There have been plenty of opportunities to be one, but Snaggy has always taken a hands-off approach. If he were a control freak, I doubt many of us would keep coming back. Besides, it's his site to run. And the new album is not botched or messed up as you allege. Only you see it that way. Nor were a "pile" of shots lost. It was a couple, and they were easily enough recovered.

Lastly, you're asking Snaggy to be a gentleman about this (which he was), so why can't you be?

1. Careful sistah, I *am* a Page 3 model now, y'know! (Sorry, obscure UK specific reference to a tabloid newspaper in which Page 3 is/ was traditionally mostly given over to a gratuitous photo of a (usually) topless female "glamour" model)

2. X, your opinion is as valid as any of ours. Don't put yourself down, even ironically, mmkay?
