I've been having trouble writing to discs with my old Sony CD-RW drive on my Kubuntu system, but rather than messing around with it too much, I think I just want to get a new DVD burner (internal, IDE).

Anyone have any recommendations for a brand or model, or just features to look for? I really haven't been paying too much attention to the formats and features they've been adding to these things, so I don't really know what's useful, and if some features might not work well on a Linux system anyway.

DVD burner prices have plummeted so you can get any good one at a low price. Plextor and Sony drives are the top of the crop, but LaCie, Lite-On and LG ones are quite good too. Look for speeds 16x or above.
