I recently setup an FTP site, but I am having difficulties login into the site to upload/download files. I been trying to add an ftp username and password that will allow acces to the site, but I am having trouble figuring out the correct steps. The usernames and passwords I have setup don't seem to work, can anyone guide me through the process of giving access to a new user?

Your help and support will be greatly appreciated!

Not without knowing what software you are using. And then probably still not. Are you trying to log into an FTP site you set up but you cannot access it remotley? Cann you access the program?

ummm have you registered the site properly? Have you waited the time period needed for the site to be setup and the DNS to be updated? Have you searched for your new site under the proper registration authority (i.e. .ca = http://cira.ca/) to make sure it is registered ? Have you contacted your hosting company?

If I set the site to log anonymously - I will get access to it; otherwise I won't. I checked with my provider and confirmed that everything was setup properly in their end. I am running the FTP site in a windows 2003 Server R2 OS. What am I missing??

I had the same issue with my site when I switched hosts. If I enter the exact information it won't connect but if I keep it open it will find it. I just left it as it is since it didn't make a difference.

A couple of things I can think of checking. Are you able to get into the management of IIS directly on this system? Or are you using a third party FTP server program? Different programs set their options differently.

It has been a dog's age since I set up FTP on a Win server, but IIRC, you need a local account created on the system that has access to the FTP root directory in order to use a log in account. Also it appears there is a setting in Server 2k3 that blocks everything but anonymous logins.

If you are using IIS I am going to assume, without knowing more about the backend you are using, that it may be a permissions issue.

Edit: Here is quick and dirty set up article for IIS's FTP service.

Link

One thing to remember is that whatever account that is created within IIS, must also have local access set up for the FTP directory. So you have FTP access, and local permissions to think about.
