Anyone here know much about NiMH digi-camera batteries? Mate of mine bought a Sony thingy - but the battery only seems to last a dozen or so piccies before the cells need to be recharged.

Do these batteries need to go through a decent number of charge cycles before they're fully juiced up, or is his thingy defective?

Any advice muchly thanked. [Smile]

A quick googling found this.
If it is a new battery, sounds dodgy. If your mate got it off ebay or the like, the battery is probably knackered.

Spungo & Littlefish________________NiMh batteries and thier special chargers can be a pain. I was at on battery shop and sold a battery because his tester showed it to be defective, only later to find that the charger was bad. NiMh don;t charge like car or NiCd batteries and require that special charger, try the battery on a different NiMh charger and see if you get better results.

My camera has a Lithium battery (at least I don't have to take it to the shrink any more...), which keeps a charge for quite awhile - but I found a charming detail about the charger: It is extremely sensitive to having the contacts disturbed. It seems the contacts for the cord are also a tad shoddy, so leaving the cord bunched makes it more prone to break contact, stopping the charge. Argh! I bought a second battery as a fallback, so I don't have something stupid happen to me like being at the top of the London Eye with a dead camera. [Wink] Great view...even if it looks like a science experiment gone madly awry. [Razz]
