____ Will this new product from APPLE be:
____ A cellphone on steroids?
____ A netbook that works like the Iphone?
____ All of the above?
____ I know too large to use as a phone, but a blue tooth headset would kick butt. Too small to be a serious computer, but it still would have a serious KEWL factor.

____ Your thoughts?

Even if it is only a blown up iPod Touch/iPhone, I want one.
I love the touch interface, and if my iPhone was bigger, I would probably do most of my surfing on one. Even without all the apps etc., that bejewel the iPhone family.

I want one too, if and when they exist.
One thing I'd like to clarify though, (I had to chastise a popular Mac news site on this the other day), it can't be regarded as hype if Apple haven't announced anything, mentioned anything or even hinted at anything that indicates this product even exists. It's purely rumour and press speculation that's built up into a hysteria.
Unfortunately at the first mention of the word hype, 'news' sites like the BBC start using the phrase in a derogatory term and will quote the wildest of rumoured specs that don't turn up in the final item as reasons why it's a failure (before it goes on to sell 40 million).
So it's the "much wished for", "much hoped for" etc. not hyped ![[Wink]](wink.gif)

Lots of speculation so far, and Zwilnik is quite correct to differentiate between hype and rumour...
but my take on the rumour is this -
Yes, Apple should produce a device that sits in the space between smartphones and netbooks, but -
1) it should look exactly like an iPhone or iPod touch 2) it should have a maximum screen size of 8" diagonal to ensure portability 3) it should run the current off-the-shelf version of OS X 4) minimum 2GB RAM and 64 GB SSD storage 5) and this is the killer...it comes with a docking station which has - a full sized keyboard, at least 2x USB, 2x FW800, 1x SD reader,1x Gigabit Ethernet.
If Apple could produce this unique device, and maybe capitalise on the marketing concept of the Powerbook Duo (for nostalgia reasons) people would pay whatever Apple asked, and so Apple would not have to compete in the current netbook pricing structure.
-------------------- ...and yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this earth with envious eyes...
