Druidling V2.0f sent me a text today - "I get to use an electron microscope!!!"
Several photos followed, proving her story.
I s'pose it's one of the benefits of going to high school in the sci-fi-future 21st Century.

When I was in High School we got to read about such things and view images from hand outs from the teacher.

On a related note, Nitrozac is looking for a microscope so she can look at tardigrades and such. Anyone know of a good one, especially one that will hook up to computer?

Our local high school does not have an electron microscope, but my younger clublet did get to do some sort of DNA sequencing in Biology a couple years ago with equipment loaned by Cornell.

I supposed pretty soon kids will be complaining they have to master use of manual lens-based tabletop microscopes before they can touch the electron microscope "because you have to understand the basic concepts first."

"Mr. Cornswaggle wouldn't let us use the electron microsope for our last exam. God, he's so lame!"

Snaggy, I use Duck Duck Go, I think Google knows enough about me.

I just searched on USB Microscope and found a bunch of hits.

I also had Dental work done this last month and the Endodontist kept sticking a camera of some form in to look at the tooth he was working on.

btw - that's a eucalyptus leaf.

btw2 - AFAIK the school the druidlings go to is the only (public?) school in the state with an electron microscope - they're across the road from (and have a close associatiion with) Melbourne University (ranked #31 in the world) and have a selective-entry specialist science program that takes 100 of the best and brightest from around the state each year, for the last 2 years of their high school education.
They're also adjacent to a major teaching and research hospital, so they have a Gene Technology Centre
