that sulfuric acid and latex gloves don't mix. They turn red and brown and that was about when I ripped them off my hands because clearly my clever plan to double-glove wasn't working out as expected. Fortunately, I had a pair of nitriles underneath them. I think I already knew that about latex and sulfuric - I don't recall ever working with any strong acid while wearing anything other than heavy rubber gloves over nitriles but, because what I was trying to do was rather delicate, I swapped the heavy stuff for latex so I could still more or less use my fingers. Oops.
Anyway, what important lessons did the rest of you learn or relearn today?

I am insulted by your supposition that I have learned or will learn something today.

Everything is bigger in Texas, especially their morons. (I heard that for the first time today, but really deep down, I already knew that.)

I relearned that taking Nyquil at 2 AM does not mean you will wake up before noon, or without a serious nyquil hangover.

Today I learned that it is important to have the lip of a pie shell go all the way around the pie, should you plan to fill the shell up to the tippy-top.

Today I learned that my raven-haired Druidling V2.0f is a closet redhead.
In amongst her predominantly jet black hair she has a few red ones, the same shade as her dad's.

Yesterday I confirmed my suspicion that hurricanes, typhoons, and cyclones are all the same stinkin' kind of storm but in a different geographic area.
The Atlantic storm name is obviously the correct one because, really, "Rock Me Like a Typhoon?" Puh-lease ![[Roll Eyes]](rolleyes.gif)

Oh the holiday part was nice. I needed that.
Anyway, today I learned that, for the first time in ~7 years, bubonic plague has been found in a pet in my city. It's endemic to the wildlife around here, especially the prairie dogs, but this year a cat got it too and the humane society is advising people to keep their cats indoors. Which is fine for kreziserb and I since our cat is supposed to be an indoor cat anyway (the cat, of course, has his own opinion) but I am left wondering why this sort of thing doesn't happen more often. The cat's been treated and returned to its people. Apparently it contracted the disease from a dead squirrel.

I was about 14 when I first peered through my birthday-present eyepeice and saw those lovely rings, I still remember it like it was yesterday.
Definitely one of the most impressive things you can see with a cheap telescope (unless you have neighbours who are careless with their curtains ).
