Was it the robin's untimely demise that made you laugh or the fact that the Latin name for the American Robin is turdus migratorius ?

The factory I worked in often had pigeons taking shelter inside during colds snaps and at night, well it seems that some hawks found there hiding place and would fly in and treat the main bay as a deli, picking and choosing their meals. This was very upsetting to may of the workers to watch nature in action, I was caught off guard as to the fact that the prey did not all take flight but seemed to sit there waiting or hoping not to be choosen.
Then management bought some of those balloons that are supposed to scare away the prey sized birds, but the sparrows attacked the ballons and deflated them.

Yeah, I must admit - I did have a Beavis moment when I saw that. No, it was just the picture in my head of all these twitchers having driven for miles to see a stupid bird - then as soon as they show up - munch! Ha ha. Serves'em right for being sad-acts. (And, yes - watching feathery birds all day long is sad, but posting on a forum all day every day to complete strangers is not... definitely not. [Wink] )

Mmm... I love watching critters rip the living shit out of each other.

Favourite David Attenborough moments: the monkey at the watering hole getting its arm ripped out of its socket by a croc. The chimps flying through the trees in pursuit of a red colobus monkey that they'd cornered and were about to tear apart and eat... fantastic!

"The robin's vivid red breast made her an obvious candidate for a lunch date."

If I remember correctly, the ones with vivd colors are males. The females are way more toned down.

Found this

The female robin's coloring is quite similar to the male, but everything is a slightly paler color

I'm one of the states with the robin as its state bird
