How does a webshow get funding to pay for cast like this ? Youtube only pays 1-5 dollars oer thousand views. And the 4-5 dollar range is for the most established youtube partners.

Merchandising, for one. Geek and Sundry is also part of YouTube's $100 million original channel initiative, so it isn't entirely funded by ad revenue. From the channel's point of view, the more popular series like The Guild may be enough to carry less popular ones (at least until they find something better).
