maybe. I'm not sure it's on a par with Rosa Helikopter, but if kreziserb hadn't been restraining me I would never have made it to the end of this lively performance by Vera Matovic and some dude in hot pants. Never heard of her? Well, if you hit the link you'll find out why. If you can last, you'll get to watch a back-up dancer de-wedgie her shorts. Priceless.

NSFW. Probably not safe in general. I think I understand why my hubby doesn't want to move back to Serbia any time in the near or distant future.

Wedgie girl was the most appealing part by far, but that's mostly because I liked her hair and focusing on her helped me avoid really seeing hot-pants man dancing like a girl in a rap video. The song itself isn't all that bad, but the sound quality doesn't do it any favors.

In return, I offer three mildly NSFW-ish songs (some cussing) from the rather unexpected genre of gangsta bluegrass (no, I'm not kidding).

I don't think these are bad, btw, and they're in my playlist, but I've been told that they suck [Smile]

Gangstagrass - Pistol Packin'
Gangstagrass - On The Run
Gangstagrass - Dirty Pickin'

I'm not sure suck is the right word. Weird as hell or absurd would be how I'd describe gangstagrass. Throw in some techno beats and you'd have an American version of turbofolk (yes, I am being very cruel to the Serbian music scene; it's really not that bad, but, as with American music, there are some very very soft and inviting targets).

Aww... a wikipedia link? I was expecting something horrible from YouTube when I clicked.

Something like this, for example

Well, I almost did go digging through a bunch of Ceca videos but there are limits to what I am willing to do to myself on a Tuesday morning. [Razz] So I settled for the old mis-directed expectations trick. [Angel]

I skimmed through half a dozen Ceca videos on YouTube last night and, while they weren't good, they didn't seem that bad. Then again, I don't understand a word of what's being sung and sometimes that makes a song better.

I somehow ended up listening to a bootlegged "Best of Ceca" CD while I was in Serbia last September. I didn't mind her much either. Didn't like it, but it wasn't as horrifying as my first encounter with turbofolk (I won't won't won't even try to dig that up on YouTube). I figured I was going to survive until my husband started translating and occasionally just refusing translating. At one point he reddened slight and said something like "Wow, that's rude," and when I pushed he said she was singing about losing her virginity...in the most graphic way possible I gather. He is not exactly an easy person to shock and I've never seen him react like that to anything. He still won't tell me what she was saying, but that might be because the only Serbian I can hang onto is the bad words and we don't need to add to my repertoire...
