...love on one of these specialised internet dating sites like DataGeek ?

I've tried regular internet dating with no joy, and was thinking about trying one like this?

Not a clue. I will not use an Internet dating site...the whole idea rather rubs me the wrong way.

Other folks around here seem to have had some success though.

It took me awhile, but I've had success through eHarmony. [Wink]

Back in the early 90s, I tried a personal ad at the insistance of my friend Nancy. It was a total disaster. I think science fiction conventions are a great place to meet fellow geek types.

I haven't found love, but I have found the next best thing:
terrible and amusing stories. (Guerilla marketing: check my blog!)

It is a forum for communication, and that's all you really need right?
Are you sure you aren't just doing Guerrilla Marketing for Datageek?

Maybe my locale is sparse in geeks (with MIT right nearby? Ha!) but I didn't get any geeks when I filled out a search...it looked like the standard match.com meatheads that're the reason I quit dating sites in the first place.

OKCupid.com's probably your best bet for geeky types, though...and their matching algorithm rules. [Big Grin]

Thanks for the tip. It turns out I don't have to start a dating site that isn't junk. Someone else has done it for me and they have already solved the problem of building a pool of people large enough to make the service viable.

But you know answering a few hundred questions takes a little while.

Depends on where you live. From what I've seen, it does a fairly good job finding people that have interests similar to mine. However, almost of all of them are at least 150 miles away, and often even further away than that.

I met a couple of people who have turned into really good gamer friends on OK cupid.

So I have nothin' but props for their service.
