This, I find, is a perfectly legitimate question that is worth delurking to pose to the Forums.

What the fsck is love?

In all seriousness, I don't claim to be, but given that I have no prior data on love to base judgements on, I can't ever accurately claim that I am or not. With some background, though, this problem may be remedied.

So go to it. Please explain, dear fellow geeks.

Well there's affection, familial ties, friendship, parental love, romantic love, erotic love, and probably even more types if I sat down to think about it. My basic definition is that love is when you care more about the other person's well-being (I don't say happiness, because didn't our parents do all sorts of things we didn't like for our own good?) more than your own well-being or happiness.

What does love look like? Beats me.

Sheesh. Only a real geek would use the phrase "prior data on love". [shake head] Have you got a markup language for describing shagging as well? [Wink]

well, let's just say that when you "make love", you're not compiling something under linux, unless, of course, the program you are compiling is called "love".

The morning after we had a climbing accident last summer, my brother, who had so gallantly led my blind and bleeding ass up to Camp Muir, informed me he felt like shit and I looked like hell. That's love.

Love is different depending on what age you are, but I think this is my favorite idea of it:

Love is the faith that you would do anything for another person (including sacrifice your own life to save theirs), without expectation of praise, recompense, or reward.

There is misplaced love in the world, and sexual chemistry which we call "Romantic Love". However, if you want the real thing, this is as true as I've found so far.

Mind, it's only an opinion.

Jess

Love is natural,
Love is instincutal (to a point, i know instints for men ar to reproduce with as many women as they can mate with)

But I agree with you Jess, but you can't just say that you would give your life for some one until tht time comes. That is why i think it is instinctual.

The inner geek says to be more excited by the word chemistry than that sexual word, whatever that means.

Love is what you get when infatuation wears off enough to tell if that's all there is. Unfortunately, it's really hard to tell the difference between infatuation and love, but if you've been with somebody for a year and you still feel a pull toward them, chances are it's love.

Alternately, love is when your boyfriend tells you he doesn't love you anymore, and you let him go.

Love is also when you break up with your girlfriend because you don't think you feel anything, and less than 24 hours later you're begging her to forget you ever said anything.

And it's also forgetting he ever said anything.

This is truth and wisdom you speak Delta. It is very hard sometimes to tell what you feel, espeically when something is new and exciting. The affects of the adreniline rush and racing hormones that are rampent when you first start a relationship can make very hard to see what you actually feel.
