airport scanners
Airport scanners can detect people who have fevers. Basically these are infrared scanners with whose accuracy can now resolve degrees instead of tens of degrees.
What I fear about using this tech. is not prevent people with influenza from traveling, but preventing people with the stomach flu ( this has nothing but a similar name to do with the influenza virus) from travelling. The thing is that I am culinarily adventurous when it come to eating when I travel. This often has lead to the “stomach flu” at its worse, about 24 hours of fever, vomiting and diarrhea. I don’t want to be detained because I have a fever, when I am not a danger.
( I actually got though having my temperature taken in customs in the 2009 swine flu scare with the above symptoms, caused by the best damn chicken I have eaten in my life, I regret nothing). ![[Eek!]](eek.gif)

I picked up something nasty on a plane the first time I went to Serbia. Not a cool way to kick off the meet the parents thing. I therefore have absolutely no sympathy for anyone who gets pulled from their flight because they're sick.

One of the selling points of these scanners was the supposed anonymity once you're inside: this didn't stop some clever Nigerian chappies recently who worked out that if you stood outside and watched who was going in, you could wait until a pretty lady showed up, and then pop inside to see her scan. Awesome. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

I'm pretty sure you're talking about the full body imaging scan...not quite the same thing.
I have much bigger objections to that scanner, as opposed to the fever one. One quirk that probably needs to be resolved with the 'pulled from your flight' situation is how the flight gets rescheduled. Part of the reason people probably act irresponsibly flying whilst sick is the expense that might be associated with non-refundable tickets (which sometimes can't even be rescheduled for a small fee). I have a funny feeling you'll actually do better getting a deferred flight if you 'fail' then if you call up and nicely ask. Flying needs more humanity. :/

I have been through the x-ray scanenr a few times now. It doesn't really bother me. I may be a bit built like a pear, but I accept how I look naked .
As for the women (or men) who feel violated, well, I guess if it is your job to look at these scans for 8 hours a day, you would become really indifferent really quickly. Just as if it was your job to look for porn sites for a porn blocking softare company for 8 hours a day.

____ With many travel sites advocating sending your bags via overnight delivery services, maybe it would be better to send our selves as freight.
____ No cab fare to the hotel, we would know when we will arrive. No TSA screeners. Whats not to like.

Shipping oneself as livestock? Not a bad idea - these days, animals will sometimes get a more human treatment than humans.
Hey! I bet you could bring you own food onboard, rather than have the half-reheated stuff served. If you can have your PSP as a "toy", you're all set for your best flight in years! ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Not in air travel, didn't a bunch of dogs in cages die at Heathrow or something.

____ No, No, No, Something like the Tardis. With a stack of astronaut diapers, zip bags to put them in, small cooler for food, straps for tie down. Vent fans. I am guessing the tare weight would be 150 lbs. plus the person.
