Ah yes, a very good night indeed. [Applause]

'Twas a campaign marked by the usual Howard dirty-tricks, the 'swiftboating' of a decorated ex-military Labor candidate, an appeal to bigotry by banning any more African refugees (because an African refugee was beaten to death by some white aussies - which proves Africans are nothing but trouble - WTF???) and the distribution of a fake leaflet from a non-existant Islamic extremist group urging a vote for Labor because Labor (allegedly) support the Bali Bombers. (Several prominent torys got caught in the act distributing that one.)

But in the end, none of it worked, the voters have seen all those dirty tricks before, and just plain didn't believe them this time.

Howard looks like becoming only the second PM in aussie history to lose his seat in parliament, and 5 or 6 of his former ministers will be joining him on the dole queue.

/me does the happy dance.

Yeah!! *does the happy dance*

I live near the PM and saw him a few days ago when he was doing his daily walk. He did not look happy :/

It's a bit sad.. as in it is a rather public rejection, but we have a new PM now who hopefully won't be Bush's lapdog. And apparently he's a geek too! [Wink]

Not America haters. We just want an Australian PM who will put Australia first, not America.

Well done Australia [Smile]

Wasn't the new bloke in favour of Australia upholding its Antarctic wildlife preserve duties and actually protecting whales against illegal Japanese commercial whaling? Howard made very little noise on that matter and seemed more worried about Japanese money.

I'm sure you'll find that Officer Vic loves Australia and all who sail in her -- 'twas tongue-firmly-in-cheek, his remark. (As is his wont, such that it may appear like he's doing a Monica Lewinsky impression [Wink] )

And we've ratified the Kyoto agreement

Poor old GWB, as with many other things, little johnnie howard was his only ally (read:puppet) on Kyoto.

Have you ever seen the Chaser boys out harassing him?

No I haven't.. normally I'm not awake when the (ex!) PM goes for walkies so I see him very rarely.. I've seen plenty others harassing him though, or gawking.

I don't support what he's done, but I feel sorry for him being in the spotlight all the time.
