I went to hear Gordon Brown speak recently. I expected to dislike him, but found that reluctantly I quite warmed to him. It is encouraging that there are quite a few people in his own party who obviously loathe him, and I hope that indicates a man of more conviction and substance than his predecessor. It is ironic that his political instincts are much more conservative than those of the current Tory leadership.
