Hi GC world.

I've been gone for a while now...so I thought I'd re-introduce myself since you've most likely forgotten me and my silly posts. [Smile]

LemonSmuggler_________________ How could we forget you.

________Since you opened up the silly posts thought.

________Candles is there an optimum size? While trapped here on the hilltop during the cold months one has plenty of time to think about useless ideas. So what is the optimum Diameter for a candle? Too large and it burns a crater, too small it burns too fast. The Mrs MoMan often buys decorative smelly candles to smell up the house. I got to watching them burn, any over two inches in Diameter seemed to Crater and burn down in side, those smaller than one inch burned fast. I have noticed that the ones labeled votive seem to burn completely and slowly they are about one and one forth inch in diameter. Is that the optimum size? So why do the ones meant for a shrine seem to burn so well is it that the Monks also thought about this and came up with the correct size glass container? Does the weave of the wick material and the type of paraffin affect the best burn diameter?

Welcome back - yes, we all remember the silly posts.

TheMoMan ___ You know I want to say "I understand your problem" - but in my 17 years of existance - size hasn't been a problem yet.

MoMan, any experiment that involves lighting things on fire is worth doing. [Wink]

MoMan- on the candle front I have to say size has never been a real problem for me, though I've seen it happen to candles before. The best candles that keep that from happening are the ones that come in glass jars, generally the best.

I used to make candles on the side. It is possible to buy different wick thickness, which burn at different rates. Really thick candles should use thick wicks, and then the burn speed of the wax and wick should match.

For some candles, it is nice that the wick burns down inside the wax, lighting it from the inside out.
