I, like you, Sneelp, am slaving in retail. Currently working as a Christmas-temp bookseller at my local Waterstone's.

I'm moving to Berlin in January, and, considering I don't speak German well, will probably get something similar or not quite as cool. McJobs are my lot for the forseeable future - as long as I want to keep on traveling - and that suits me fine, to be honest, considering I have no idea what I want to do with my life [ohwell]

I work in...
Product Development (I design and build propeller beanies),
Sales (I flog the magnificent headwear),
Public Relations (I let people join the Forums),
Justice (I kick them out when they are spammers),
Advertising (as gruesome as it sounds),
International Distribution (I pack and ship orders),
Publishing (I send magazines high-rez comics),
Creative (I make fun of people using words and pictures),
and Maintenance Engineer (I stick duct tape on old code to keep it working.)

In addition, I'm the guy who tries to keep the beer kegs, coffee, and donuts all stocked up in the SuperFan Forum. [Big Grin]

I am currently defending our liberty against turrists and evil-doers, and anyone else who hates our freedoms... and would drink our women and rape our beer... and would wish to sap our vital fluids. Although mostly I just dick about on a 'puter.

I study esoteric weird shit that about twenty other people in the world care about. One is my boss. Six are my labmates. The others are either competitiors or rivals, depending on the day.

I also make things NOT work. [Razz]

I was in retail, but the poverty and self-loathing forced me to go back to school.

Now I'm a student and I supplement my income by torturing chemistry students (read tutoring). Chemistry isn't my major, but it's a lot of fun. It'll probably be the center of my undergraduate research.

I used to do that. Now I'm doing science for the man. Very few people care about it still, but it is worth a huge amount of money

So much so, that I'm not allowed to make things not work.

I'm a complaints handler - when my employers mess up, I have to fix it and then kiss customer ass. Although sometimes the customers complain when we haven't messed up, and then I get to tell them it is all their own fault. [Big Grin]

This summer I had four jobs:

During the months of May-June I was a professional techie at a black box theater. When rehearsals stopped and the show started performing I only had to be there at night, so I spent my days at my school's admission office sorting out paperwork and answering the phone.

During the month of July I taught little kids about science. I then spent my nights cavorting around Cambridge, talking with strangers at coffee shops and dancing to psytrance on the south bank of the Charles.

On weekends I went to Newbury st. and handed out flyers for the Blue Man Group. I usually balanced a book on my head as I walked up and down the street so that people wouldn't immediately dismiss me. I tried not to be too annoying.

At night I slept in a house out in the middle of the woods. I would look out of my kitchen window to my backyard where I saw rabbits in the morning and flocks of turkeys at night.

When the school year started I went back to doing problem sets and playing video games.

I miss this summer [Frown]

I wish, I am always doing something even its just annoying the Mrs. thats pretty easy to do. Right now I am thinking how to do small scale wind power, and have it worth the cost so many of the units out there are made out of pure unobtainium. I also in my spare time do some EComm for the four counties that are near or under the umberella of my signal.

I'm studying physics; Gods willing, I'll get a job building nuclear bombs, or building thermonuclear reactors.

To pay the rent, though, I have a job as a "Engineering Intern" at a local financial company. Basically I get payed to convert perl to python (a task that I wholeheartedly support) and help the "real" engineers edit some ancient C code.

I'm also a jack-of-all-trades: I can do or fix anything, really. Plumming, electrical, carpentry, emotional support, dog training, electronics repair- you name it. And I'll usually do it for non-monetary compensation, like food or beer (or both!).
