The broken greeting
makes me smile

Good to be back
among you

Greetings to the new ones.

*cough, cough*

popo, i sing to thee
while we skip, merry-lee,
i bide my time
i sit
and wait
for you
to pass
the strawberries.
thankyou, friend.
thankyou.

[Smile]

seeing as we're doing poetry...

ohhhhh...!
summer is a-coming in,
dance around my hat,
i will wear a tiny mammal,
but then we take the crabs,
and put them in our eyes,
and shoot them, shoot them!
shoot the crabs!

no, i have nothing against crabs, but if any of you can tell me where thats from i'll give you a stick. mighty fine stick too, full of stick-filled joy...

anyway...

i like poetry. i think a section would go down well. and within that there could be little sections. serious poems, loved-up poems, funny poems, stupid poems, etc, etc.

i heartily back the poems idea. [thumbsup]

love from the tin, Spoongirl [Wink]

a january vision...

a wintry desolation descended
upon the plain, snow swirling
in thick, pale maelstroms of cold.
sunny, frozen skies above,
a cathedral of frigid azure glass
threatening to shatter
over our heads into fine blue shards.
white expanses stretch forward endlessly.

the air warmed then, summer's breath
liquefying everything, lifting an
atmosphere of cool blues to reveal
tones of green. the birds rejoiced.

From beautiful Boulder:

Glass coating the trees
Shattering in sun's warm light
To fall on my head

Behind the clouds
Stand the mountain ridges
Under thin white snow

Mud on my face
Water dripping from pant legs
On time to class!

Scent of gas in halls
Will the alarms be pulled?
Such fun on Monday

As I was kneeling down for prayer tonight, the first thing I could think about is how I wish I could do two things at once, and this popped into my head....

I wish that I was a pentium
and able to multi-task
To be able to run in a marathon
and still do all that I'm asked

So before you complain to me
and jump in anger and shout
For your sake, and for mine
On me don't let frustrations out

And when my code is untidy
and cannot ever be read
please do keep in mind
I cannot hyperthread...

Thank you [Smile]

This is a poem I wrote months back; a reflection upon leaving school. I know it's not very good (I'm not fishing for compliments, it's just a matter of fact), but here it is:

Parting Ways

Inked in by our memories of each other,
We are deliberate mistakes,
Gloriously indelible blots on memory,
Smearing each other’s fingers in our curious
Lack of platitudes, our curious
Abundance of quiet, private journal entries
And secret thoughts that no one who has ever
Left has ever had before.
Our ink is black, our pages white,
Together we learned to pretend not
To sing as we stood comfortable,
In our collective discomfort.
Our hymn is one of what we think we are
Leaving behind.

Tagged on the Wall Inside

I have an ugly place in my soul.
It crept up on me somewhere between the
Swingsets
Of my childhood and
Errands
Of my adulthood.
There's no place for rhyme
I don't have the time
To amble on rapturously.
Once I was flying
But now I am dying
There's so much I want to see.
I cry in the shower
Thinking she's going to die
A baby of three
Of some evil unknown
And my son will live
A Cancer Survivor.
How?

My Child vs. Cancer

In the flourescent glow of the sixth floor
We have become our children's defenders
Bleary-eyed warriors against the big "C".
I smile and joke with the other cancer lifers.
I've got short-timer's now. It'll be ok.
You see, we're almost done.

Lymphoma, Leukemia, Myloma, Sarcoma.
We close our eyes while the venom drips
Into our children's veins, just like the tears
You always cry and cry in the beginning.
My baby's chemotherapy's ending. It'll be ok.
You see, we're almost done.

Do you look away from my child in the store?
It's frightening to see death haunt a child.
Come celebrate him with us, say "Hello".
I remember when I was you. I can't go back.
This year has been a lifetime. It's already ok.
I see we're almost done.

P I C U

What a ride, hunh, Pooh?
I know I scared you when I was crying
I'm sorry, but you were fading, dying.
I haven't slept in a chair
In years.
I'll do it again tomorrow and the next night
Because you need me to.
It's full up tonight in the PICU.
Like last night.
And the night before.
All babies, someone's babies.
Mothers' eyes pleading,
"Ask God to save my child after you get
Your two-buck coffee from downstairs?"
If I could I would gather all of the babies
And show God their tubes, scars, and fear.
But I don't believe in God,
So we're even.

Those are actually about the best I've written. Most recent to least recent. I think November of this year, November of 2002, and January of 2002.

Jess

Must be the winter
Ice-cold wind blowing in
With the setting sun

And here's some free verse. The only one I'll share, as the rest is pretty frickin' dark.

Burned to the dust
From ashes I am risen
Phoenix ever-lasting
Passing beauty, eternal flame
Birth and death are mine
All-consuming, never dying
Immortal fire-bird
Phoenix ever-lasting

"in the shadows"

In the shadows,
between the people,
not yet fallen,
but selfish in my own regard,

seeking answers,
seeking reasons,
beholder trapped in flesh,
bound by human desires

meld with shadows
in plain sight
unseen unknown
never undone
in the shadows

Becaue I'm sucha creative little lab rat...

Tears for Grandma finally shed
Almost nine moths to the day
Eighty years and two days
Four children
Nine grandchildren
Two great grand-children
Eighty years and two days
To travel the world
And love a clan
I can’t believe she’s gone
Gone before the war began
In this we should be glad
She loved peace and yet she saw
World War II
Korea
Vietnam
And Gulf War I
I loved her and she loved me
Yet it still took nine months
To shed my tears for Grandma
