My friend iGeorge, the rocket scientist/computer geek has informed me that the newest word to categorize geekdom is...

May I have the envelope, please...

quote:

HOPLOPHILE

Deriving from:

code:

Main Entry: hop·lite
Pronunciation: 'häp-"lIt
Function: noun
Etymology: Greek hoplitEs, from hoplon tool,
weapon, from hepein to care for, work at
-- more at SEPULCHRE
Date: circa 1741
: a heavily armed infantry soldier of ancient Greece

I'm told that a Hoplophile is one who fancies, studies, or is obsessed with tools or weapons. Since computers, PDAs, and other geekophenalia can be most likely classified as either tools, weapons, or both (remember the G4 ad?), we think this is a great fit.

Start using this great new word! Impress your friends!

Oh yea. I'm soooo a hoplophile!

I like Graphing Cauculators! Does that make me a Hopophile? Actually, I wrote a Dictionary of geek language that I am trying to publish, that makes me a bibliophile!

While we're making the tidbits, could we also re-make the formatting so that the page will assume the window width?  (I'm on a crappy laptop with a low-res add-on monitor, and a lot of these "tricks" force the page to be wider than Windoze will let the monitor display without horizontal scrolling.)

Well, I didn't "make" the tidbits.... I was just listed...

Sounds like the layout problem is a "Snag", though.

I think you could fix the snag by editting and putting a line break in that long definition.

Sorry Tau...

I wasn't clear on what you were talking about... I thought you meant some widget on the JoT main page...

Perhaps it looks better for you now...?
