That's really cool.
The road would be able to sense the movement of vehicles by the shadows they cast on the solar cells, and could adjust the road markings to travel along with the cars, so every car could have a speed limit sign just in front of it at all times. And the sign could change colour if you're speeding, and flash if you're speeding TOO MUCH, and display warnings if you're too close to the car in front, or if there's a school crossing a couple of km ahead. It would be almost as 'good' as having the wife in the car.
I wonder how long would it be before the spammers hack into this and turn the highway into a huge ad for cheap Rolexes and penis enlargement?

Snaggy,
That sounds so cool. I used to dream of traveling on a moonbeam, but I was very young then.
I will tell you what, Mr. Druid, the way you explain this reminds me of an pill I took after I asked Alice when she was 10 foot tall! But I was very young then, too!
Remember Kids, don't do as your parents did, do what they say. Because most of us parents are lucky to get this far! Really lucky.
Whoa, dude, there's a speed limit sign flashing in your windshield, man. And, we're only going 7 miles an hour. Where did you get this Aspirin, and why was it purple?

That's the first idea I've seen that gives me any hope that we might actually solve the energy problem, the fuels waste problems, the deteriorating grid problem, the broadband problem, and the range problem in electric vehicles. Not to mention the problem of how to get signs to move with the cars so they can constantly be advertising to us.
Heck, throw in a few induction coils, and who needs batteries? The road itself can power the cars merely through electromagnetic induction.
This is one of the best ideas in modern times, on par with the Steamboat, the electric light, and Apple Computer.
