I don't know how many of you have a download folder? But I decided to clean mine out thoroughly, and well oddly enough came across some of the oddest files. I'm wondering what the oddest files you've found in your download box?

Mine so far are two things.... Electrical schematics for fuel control system for a large catamaran passenger and vehicle ferry and secondly a white paper for Celebrex (arthritis medication???)

Eclectic mix of surfing items that's for sure???

UPDATE:
PDF of "Rhizoremediation of Trichloroethylene by a Recombinant, Root-Colonizing Pseudomona flurescens Strain Expressing Toluene ortho-Monooxygenase Constitutively" - Don't ask my why I was reading about this?

A PDF called "Biology and Management of Potato Insects" from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.

Saw my cat pawing at a larva on my kitchen floor one day that I was pretty sure was a potato grub but wanted to confirm it. I found this PDF while searching on google. I assume the grub was in the sack of potatos I had in the pantry.

Brane Detuning and Spatial Warp Models.
Alcubierre Methods in R^3.
pedin_edhellen.pdf.
Apology for the Riemann Hypothesis (3 copies!).
Picture of Nolan Ryan pitching, texas_heat.jpg (2, identical).
A list of colleges attended by graduates of the Latin School of Chicago (wtf?).

Did you get the job?

Oh, the weirdest thing in my download folder has to be the MPEG of the Lugo Substation cicuit breaker failing to break a cuicuit and sending a 35 - 50 ft. arc of very high voltage electricity into the air for about 15 seconds...cool stuff. [Big Grin]

That's it for downloads -- unless you meant web cache folder, which I'm kind of afraid to look in...who knows what's in there...

Now there's a piece of software waiting to be written. Takes a picture of someone as input, and works out who it is. Mind you, it would require a pretty big database of photos to work from.

Of course, the government probably already has an app that does that. </tin foil hat mode>

I got a little bored in rxvt, so I did an ls on my work box, and see it is equally boring:
code:
Colour Selector Win32 flashplayer7 oggds-for-wmp
Colour Selector Win32.zip gaim-0.73.exe pdf-creator
Copy of emm386-4.49 gaim-0.77.exe perl-par
HWpreview gaim-0.78.exe pixel-decor
HWpreview.zip gimp2.0 poweroff-3.0.1.3
Intel Pro 1000 (updated) gliderpro powertoys-xp
Intel Pro 1000 (updated).zip icon-editors realvnc-4_0b4
Shortcut to gscript.lnk imail-downloads thunderbird
bookmark-converter intel-e1000dos tightvnc
broadcom570x-gigabit-drivers intel-pro2100 tmppar
defrag.vbs intel-prodos treesize1.71
dell-intel1000-nic-dos intel-prodos2-8.2 vim-for-netbeans
dos-usb2 itunes-win vim63
e1000-270 j2re1_4_1_07 win32-gui-671
e1000-diag-270 keytweak win32-gui-src
emm386-4.49 moz-1_6 winamp291
eraser-5.7 mozilla-1_7b wine-tests
firebird-jre142-fix.reg netbeans-ext_editor wipedrive-demo
firefox nsis-test_stuff
flashplayer6 nvu

On the other hand, I think the random track that just came up in iTunes is more interesting:
Snow Patrol - Run -- 'twas the free download of the week on iTunes a fortnight ago...and I kind of forgot about it.

Despite all this excitement, I see that I'm still using ~12 GB on my 40GB drive - I either need to clean this thing up some more, or fill it up with more crap [Wink] . I think it's getting nigh time to run Treesize again.

Hmm, I don't make a habit of downloading odd items...I supposed the item that would be closest to odd is 'hmr2300.pdf', A 12 page datasheet for a Honeywell digital magnetometer...

Well, two can play at the "ls the download directory" game [Wink]
code:
chrisk@gandalf:~/Downloads/Win95$ ls
Cygwin aurema_ssh_0.2.zip mountext2
IMB Loan simulator cddrive neatimage
Palm Pilot etax2003_1.exe ps2plus.zip
QVTTerm infozip scorch
Term32v43f.zip intelnic tomsrtbt-1.7.185.tar.gz
UT2004-BetaDemo.exe kmw ut2003
UselessTelnet.zip liteon_firmware ut2004-3186-dedicatedserver.zip
Win2000_patches mitsumi cd rom vmware-tools291.exe
accton mix win95_updates
acctonnic mix_win

Nothing all that interesting there, really. Except that it proves I need to do some cleaning up! I just found xdiskusage last night, and it's a nice little prog for working out where the space hogging directories are.

Dude, gaim .80 is out. [Big Grin]

My download directory is an absolute mess... filled with tonnes of old junk. As for weirdest item.. I don't know... probably a text file containing a fun bash prompt I once made:

export PS1="C:\`echo \$PWD | perl -we '\$_ = <STDIN>; s/\//\\\\\\\\\/g; print;'\`>"

Used it to scare the shit out of my roommate once.
