You want Snaggy to lock/delete ALL threads that aren't nice ??
Yes, I think censorship is what this forum needs. ![[Roll Eyes]](rolleyes.gif)

Jace, I'm not exactly sure what you are trying to say with that, but given the /pedant, I'm assuming you are disagreeing with my point. First, let me clarify that novels, by definition, are fiction; while they made be based on real ideas or even historical settings, they are not true stories. Night is usually classified as autobiography and is therefore an entirely different genre, and rightly, doesn't apply to what I was saying. But, as a pendant, you knew that, right? I haven't seen the film version (if there is one), and I supposed I should have indicated that, like novels, I was referring to artistic works that are not based on true stories. I assumed that was a given, since I paired films with fictitious literature. My bad.
As for this thread and the nastiness it seems to have inspired, methinks this is exactly what Lumina wanted and she's gotten it. I plan on agreeing to disagree and leaving it at that.

I don't really care if she got what she wanted or not-I just wanted her exposed.
If she's enjoying it-that's fine. At least she's not posting!

Who said all? I said this one. Personally I think it has gone on long enough already. Not being nice is one thing, a bitchfest is something else. And as for censorship, telling people what they should be saying on the Internet sounds like censorship to me. And aren't you the one who suggested putting in something to make it harder to join?
Tell you what, let's all read the posts we want to read, believe the stuff we want to believe, and ignore anything we don't like. GC will be a much better place if even half of the people here start doing that.

I NEVER said she should be censored, kicked out, or told what to say. I simply exposed her through a joke I made on April Fool's Day.

Nope. Not at all. I suggested an anti-trolling procedure that has worked for other forums, in which controversial topics are kept to a thread that can only be accessed by those who have posted a few times and been members for a period of time. Kinda like the waiting period for crazies to buy guns.
This is, essentially, a club. Clubs have rules and guidelines for joining. That is NOT censorship.

It's very simple, GM - a troll is someone who posts for their own amusement - and no one else's. Seeing as a great many people have been amused by Zorro over the years I really fail to see how you can compare him to LM/AR.
A pointer to life in general, GM - the fact that you didn't get it, doesn't mean it wasn't a joke.

Hey what's wrong with a bitchfest anyway?
The Cosmic Bong bores me let's start a real fight. Jace Raven and Capn Vic, I've got more irony in my little finger, than you have in your entire bodies. Takes wild swing..
And Snupy, to make your April Fool post took some guts, it was funny, deadly accurate, utterly justified, and did us all a favour. I just did not like its aftermath when, for a while, it seemed to be open season on LM, instead of giving her a little time and space to reflect on what she had done, and her new exposed situation.
Anyway let's get back to that fight.... Biff boff bash!

Thanks, Cal, and I agree-I did NOT expect the aftermath. If she hadn't posted this thread, it probably would've gone away quietly.

To provide my two cents, purely because I arrived a little late and am too opinionated on this subject to stay quiet like a good kid :
I was one of the people who was completely sucked in by Audrie the first time round: Roach and I spent ages discussing how worried we were for her, and it really upset us. I was relatively religious at the time, and put a lot of energy into praying for her and wishing her well.
I was so, so angry and hurt when I found out it was all bullshit. I mean, seriously upset. Like a lot of people here, I think that lying about subjects which struck a painful chord with many of us was a terrible thing, and one which I cannot easily forgive.
My reaction at the time was just to ignore her completely from then on, and that has pretty much been the case ever since, including the current Lumina incarnation. I was sure that Lumina and Audrie were one and the same after Lumina had been at the boards for about a week, and mentioned it cautiously to other Superfans in case they thought I was crazy, but most of them agreed. Since then, I've done my best to ignore her, but I really haven't lost a lot of sleep over her presence at the boards. The only thing she has done since then which has made me really angry is the supposed molestation story, because that did try to provoke sympathy - a waste of energy for all concerned. So, I think that you were completely right to bring her to task for it, snupy. GM, I know you said that we shouldn't get riled up over it, but it really is an insult to everyone's intelligence and sympathies.
Simultaneously, though, I don't think it should have been brought up in public, because it gave rise to this dreadful bitching and name-calling that has taken place, and which seems to me to be symptomatic of the boards in general recently. If Lumina had been put in her place behind the closed doors of PMs or e-mail, it would have saved all this energy and anger between people who used to be friends. Isn't this really one of the worst cases of troll-feeding we have yet seen?
A lot of us have said that it's people like Lumina... trolls... who cause so many problems here at GC. Yes, that's true. But it also seems that a lot of us are so quick to pounce on each other and on newbies, and to dismiss people with cruel words rather than the respect that all of us deserve. I'm not really the most talkative person, but I used to post here a lot more. I still read regularly though, and when I say I don't post because I'm busy with university, it's only half the truth. The real reason is because I'm sensitive enough not to like it when people get called fucking morons or idiots and are completely dismissed when I feel they haven't done anything to deserve it. And I don't want to be next. GC seems openly hostile now, and is nothing like the friendly community I knew when I joined. I feel old when I lament how polite people used to be, and how you could be witty without picking on someone else. Peebs, GM and Jace Raven all made perfectly acceptable, non-threatening comments here, and okay, you might question them, but don't flame them to pieces for goodness sake! I see it over and over again everywhere and it seems to me that this Lumina situation has served to highlight some of the bigger problems that GC has.
Okay, I've said my piece. Don't flame me, please, or you'll prove me right . Guess this is my way of asking "Should I even bother?" ... because I have convinced myself that it's time for me to leave GC, too. So, farewell all... take care of yourselves, and each other . I'll come back if things change, I promise .
Edit: Ah, I lost my sparkly 5 stars for the first time ever - the perfect time to leave

Call me clueless, but I just don't see the "open hostility" to newbies (apart from on this thread) that has been mentioned. I'm new(ish), and everyone has been perfectly nice and polite to me, even when I probably didn't deserve it...

a. Xanthine is right - you've said everything quite well there, and it would be a real shame for you to leave. I think we'd all (at least I would) enjoy it greatly if you posted a bit more around here, so we'd have someone to keep us a little more in check, even .
b. Same as Xanthine - I gave you 5 stars a long time ago, so I can't do it now :-/.
c. A point I was going to make earlier, but decided to let this thread stay quiet...but that's not possible at the moment it seems, so here goes: People have said, "so ignore it." There's a big problem with this argument - if you want to follow the active threads, you cannot escape it. These threads draw 90% of the attention, and if you choose to completely ignore them, it's like you're sitting in the corner, with your back to the crowd .
