That looks spookily like my fiancée's cat Murphy... we know he has several homes up and down the street, but we never realised he got this far! ![[Eek!]](eek.gif)

So why is it so many cats have such similar markings. I can understand it for something like dogs where humans keep the blood lines pure for a lot of different breeds. But outside of a few Persians and Siamese breeders you don't have a lot of purebred cats, while there are gazillions of cats out there that just breed and breed and breed.
I see lots black-n-white of cats like these. The markings around the nose usually will let you distinguish them. Then there are the all black cats, but they usually have at least a few white hairs on their chest and belly. It's like the black-n-white cats but the black just keeps expanding.
Then there are the orange striped cats. And the tortise shell. And a calico or two thrown into the mix.
I can understand that genetically the calico coloring must be a recessive gene as it doesn't show up that often, and can show up after 2 generations of no calico cats. But why is it that there aren't more cats with say a tortise shell back but a black and white belly say? (ewww - that would look wierd - but you get my point)

Surprisingly "Fluffy pussy" only returns 55 hits (and some of those are actually cats) where "fluffy kittens" returns 239. Maybe the web isn't as depraved as I thought.....

Now being a woodworker - I like that kind of twisted and depraved site. But not as much as the cat!
I saw some black-on-black text on the front page and in there two phrases struck me as especially funny "furniture having intercourse" and "unnatural acts of carpentry" - Who in their right mind would google such a phrase???

Uh, just a thought - I didn't try said queries, but I was reminded the other day in /. followup about a9.com (when people were apparently searching for 'goats') that Google's SafeSearch is on by default - have you checked about that?

Calicos are only sort-of recessive: they display both the dominant and recessive colorings of orange and gray.
Cat coat colors are controlled by the X chromosome; which is why female cats are usually more colorful. It's very rare to find a male calico, and when you do they are always sterile (because of the two X and one Y chromosomes).
