Even a dollar per month?
I wouldn't--I have a facebook, but I don't actually like it. No way would I pay for it. I can only hope that they start charging, and there will be a mass exodus, and people will quit nagging me to actually use the monstrosity.

The problem with micro payment system for earning money is not that people wouldn't pay one dollar to use the site, it is that paying so little over the internet is such a hassle. The point where paying these micro payments is no longer a hassle for the small amount, is when they are no longer MICRO payments.

Having to pay for it would tip nearly everyone over the edge into "f%^k it"-land. These phenomena are necessarily fleeting -- they're a buzz while folks are working out their limitations. But that never takes too long. Yeah, so, you can get in touch with someone you knew in high school -- so what? Do you have anything in common any more? Maybe it's just me, but my world's already full of people to whom I have nothing to say.
(Sheesh, I really need to get out more.)

On reflection, it appears that I may have been rather harsh in the past in my attitude towards social websites. They have their role, part of which serves to reassure you that whereas one's pointlessness may be absolute, it is clearly not singular -- it's not usually difficult to locate an individual with even less purpose than oneself. That's something, I suppose. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Me personally, no. I rarely use Facebook and while I took the plunge to get another MySpace account, I really don't use them. The only times I bother is when a relative sends me something via one of these sites. But that is maybe once a month or so.
I just don't utilize "Social Networking" enough anymore to justify paying for it.
Now my blog, or my flickr, I would(and do) pay for.

___________________ In one word NOOOO I have tried Classmates, Vet Friends, and one or other Vet. locater services.
All of them will tell you that they have located your search, but you must pay for the results only to be told then that that person is not a paid up member and they can not help you.
At one time EDS would do a search for a Vet. for free and tell that Vet. that you were looking for them, That worked well and I did locate some old friends.

No. It's already becoming over trashy again following the debacle of applications in "original facebook", and it'll free me of the constant stalking I'm obligated to do.
I remember facebook when it was simple, just a way of checking on your friends on a campus. Now it's a bloated monstrosity, obviously geared towards advertising revenue than anything else. So I won't put any extra money into it!
On a side note, will this bite them in the arse? People stop using it because they have to pay, so their advertising revenue drops. Will they cover that loss in membership fees?

*If* it meant that I owned my data and Fb wouldn't go screwing around with it, that might actually be a good deal. As it is, I won't use it due to my distrust of Facebook's privacy 'values,' or lack thereof.

Even if they paid me I still wouldn't use it, zero interest in FB!
And don't get me started on Classmates.com, I'm not paying them either!

Ummmm, no way! I started FB back in December, it was fun for about a month, then I decided, hell, I could not stand these people in high school and I can't stand them now. It is crazy, my friends, I talk to on a regular basis...don't need a social site for that! But, Spungo, you are dead on when you say fit will hit the shan if they try and charge people for it...

I refuse to pay for it. What does it DO FOR ME. I don't generate income from it. The sole thing it does for me is put me in contact with folks i already know, or knew in the past. Thats it. It does NOT add to my income nor does it add to business prospects... It's just another spot in the blogosphere.

I went to a Comedy Festival show last night. One of the songs was "I get into things just when they've stopped being cool", the relevant line from that song was
"I'm thinking of signing up to Facebook"
Facebook is doomed.

I'd be a dumb idea, payment over the Internet is far from seamless. Plus, I'm afraid it defeats the purpose the site is intended. I've gone through so much circles there it's good to keep up to date with people far away from me.

We can only hope. I honestly wish they'd never opened up to everyone and stayed restricted to universities and businesses.
I'm thinking of starting the "PLEASE charge for facebook so I can quit without everyone I know nagging me to come back" group.
