I didn't watch the superbowl (it was onfrom midnight till 4 or so at the local sports bar).

I am on youtube tonight looking to see if the comercials were decent.

I think they suck this year.

But I have noticed the ones I have seen seem increasingly violent. Punch koalas, throwing snowglobes in guys nuts, havig a guy attacked by a badger for no good reason, throwing duded out windows. This sh!t isn't funny.

WTF?

they should just run porn during the bathrooms breaks and teach them americans hwo to love each other.

I had already read this story; that is where I got my magnificent idea from.

These ads are targeted at young American males. Young American males find physical humor funny. Especially if it involves a snow-globe to the nards.

As a not-so-young American male, I still found the snow-globe to the groin hilarious. Partly because it nicely one-upped my expectation that it was going to hit someone in the head. Erm. The *other* head.

I thought they were mostly offensive. I was surprised and disturbed.

The Hulu one was good ... sorry, Canada -- and I liked one of the Clydesdale ones. But the rest, ugh. Violent and sexist.

It really is sad that you can't access Hulu from outside of the U.S.

Yup.

Sad

Don't get me started on the Superbowl in Canada. I have filed two complaints with the CRTC against CTV and one against Shaw Cable.

Regardless. I agree the commercials weren't all that great this year, but I did enjoy the odd one or two once I could download them on AOL video.

This fascination with the ads shown during the superbowl is the thing - one of the things - one of the many things - that puzzles me about merkins.

Here in oz, most people think of ad breaks as a chance to get another beer.

Actually Druid, for me it's job related as I work in Marketing. The ads are not so much a fascination for the US as it is more of a curiosity for the start of many marketing campaigns for the year by each company.

It has become popular because large budgets go into them and even bigger named directors produce these ever popular ads.

Why the CTV in Canada thinks to extort those companies by making them pay again for broadcast rights in Canada is not right or should be allowed. Regardless, I believe only a small percentage of viewers are interested in the commercials. Football in the US is the second most watched sport on TV, with car racing being first.
