____ The Edmund Fitzgerald was crossing Lake Superior, down bound with a load of Iron Ore for the steel mills. The Fitz encountered bad weather and sank on Nov 10, 1975 just off White Fish Point.

____ Then one day later we celebrate Armistice Day from WW1

Here's a great cover of "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Brainclaw.

On a related (but not directly related) note, I went to Whitefish Point's Shipwreck Museum this summer when I was in Da U.P.

A rather eerie museum, to say the least, but certainly worth the trip if you're up that way. The soundtrack is all Gordon Lightfoot, all the time.

____ A coworker was a history buff and had an audio recording, from the Ship to Shore operator. During the recording an Ocean going Ship (Salty) was up bound, and the Locks pilot wanted off of his ship because the Captain was counter manding the Pilots orders. The Captain was overheard shouting its just a ([email protected]**) lake. Shortly after that transmission the pilot reported that the Salty Captain was ready to heave to and stay in White Fish Bay. It seems that a good sized wave broke over the bow and blew out the glass on the bridge of the the ship. So much for its just a Lake.
