Having just switched radio stations to escape the nauseous Christmas Shoes song, my question is do you have a least or most favourite holiday song? Yes, you can pick the Twelve Beers of Christmas, if you want.

Oh....many favourites.... Stop the Cavalry by Jonah Lewie, Little Drummer Boy by Bing & Bowie, Gaudete by Steeleye Span, to name just a few.

But hey, I'm not actually a Christian so my No.1 slot is reserved for Soltice Bells by Jethro Tull.

I don't have any least favourites...they're all crap - that's the point! [Big Grin]

Well last two weeks it has been nothing but bad christmas songs. In my mind almost all are crap.

Bing and Bowie weren't a duet one would think of right away, but it is a good song.

We have a station playing all holiday music. I was paying attention to traffic yesterday afternoon and not the music. Suddenly my daughter is asking why the little girl wants to hit Santa. The pretty little dolly song should not be played before bedtime.

The John Waters Christmas album has some good ones.

I think I heard my new worst last night while dining at a semi-swanky place: Jingle Bells as played on a baseball park organ. Though it only lasted a few minutes, the psychic damage it caused will take decades to recede.

Anything by Manheim Steamroller. They could make any Christmas song sound good IMHO.

It's not exactly a Christmas song, but the song "Once Upon a December" from the movie Anastasia has become a favorite of mine.

Of course, that may have something to do with the person singing on the version I have. [Smile]

Simon and Garfunkel, Seven O'clock News.

Many people have done edit jobs now with old popular songs to stir emotion. They were the first.

Didn't we go through this last year? Interesting anthropological study to compare the answers to this thread [Wink]

Anyhow, if it came out in the mid-20th century and/or was sung by Bing friggin' Crosby, Frank goddam Sinatra or any of their ilk, I probably can;t stand it. Your chestnuts can roast up your arse's winter wonderland for all I care.

My favorites are along the lines of Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by U2 and Happy Xmas (War is Over). Mannheim Steamroller is also good, and I quite enjoy traditional Christian songs when sung by a chorus over a nice big pipe organ. Not that I'm particularly Christian now, but I grew up with those songs and they still move me a bit.

If you force me to distill that into single item answers, I'll go with Winter Wonderland = crap and Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) = super.

My musical tastes change with the wind, but I'm currently getting a kick out of "Takin' Care of Christmas" by Randy Bachman (ex of Bachman-Turner Overdrive, "Takin' Care of Business"? You knew that, I know.). It's got the same riffs as the original, but with new lyrics (that are every bit as deep as TCB) and jingle bells. Fun.

Yes, I'm easy to please.

For my "serious" choices I'd go with Vince Guaraldi/Charlie Brown Christmas for instrumental and "The First Noel" by the Crash Test Dummies. Ellen Reid's voice makes me all tingly.
