I noticed when putting out a newspaper this morning that the anniversary of MTV is coming up.
1) Did you watch MTV in the early days?
2) Favourite musician/group of the 1980s?
3) Have you ever had a favourite MTV VJ or show from any time?
4) Have ever worn a dodgey outfit because a musician wore something like it?
5) If you were in a band, what would you do?

1) Did you watch MTV in the early days? I actually watched something called Night Tracks, which was earlier. TBS was still starting out as a cable channel and used to play music videos late on Saturday nights. We didn't get MTV on our cable, when it first started .
2) Favourite musician/group of the 1980s? Too hard. I like regular rockers and music that came over from the UK like Madness/ABC/Clash etc
3) Have you ever had a favourite MTV VJ or show from any time? Haven't watched it in years as they don't really play music now. I liked "Where are they now" on VH1. I think it is interesting that Adam Curry got in on the early net.
4) Have ever worn a dodgey outfit because a musician wore something like it? Not me, but I did try to make my brother's hair look Flock of Seagulls. We couldn't find anything strong enough to make it stand like that.
5) If you were in a band, what would you do? I sang in a college band. I always wanted to play the guitar in a band. A cherry red strat!

I dont remember much of the 1980s. I will have to say BoneThugs n Harmony for the early '90's. Crossroads was my favorite music video.

Yes

Pat Benatar back then (Don't listen to her now, but I was her "biggest fan" back then). Still listen to The Cure, The Smiths, Oingo Boingo, Thomas Dolby, and too many others to mention!

IRS Records "The Cutting Edge" (I have "The Best of The Cutting Edge" on LaserDisc)

Alice Cooper, the Cure, Judas Priest...

Remember Jesse Camp? He was awesome. I loved Liquid Television, The Maxx, AEon Flux, Beavis & Butthead...the age of MTV cartoons was mindblowing.

Someday I'll drag out the photos from my Siouxsie Sioux phase...
5) If you were in a band, what would you do?
Well, I already play bass, so I suppose that's what I'd do. You know, besides being covered with groupies and inebriated all the time.

Depeche Mode, The Cure, OMD, Adam Ant, A-ha, Go-Gos, Duran Duran, among others.

I agree with Demo - the MTV cartoons rocked.

Thankfully, no. But I was ALMOST swayed to get a Thriller-era jacket with zippers and snaps, etc. Thank god I couldn't afford it.
5) If you were in a band, what would you do?
Snog all of my groupies....often....and well.

Nope. The UK generally, and me in particular, came late to the cable-telly party.

Marillion (The proper Marillion!)

Nope. But I think there may be some mullet photos somewhere....

I'd get sacked. I play guitar but I can't keep time with other people.

I never had cable (TV).

I was young in the 80's. I had a record of those robots singing at Chucky Cheeses (Showbiz Pizza). I loved that record.

Yes, way back when they played 24 hour music videos. Sometimes I watched for hours at a time. Ah sweet youth departed... and wasted...
2) Favourite musician/group of the 1980s?
Ummmm... I'm not a huge fan of 80s pop music, but I sort of liked ABC ("Poison Arrow", "Look of Love", etc) and Devo.
3) Have you ever had a favourite MTV VJ or show from any time?
They all annoyed me, but Martha Quinn sticks out because of Mojo Nixon's "Stuffin' Martha's Muffin".
4) Have ever worn a dodgey outfit because a musician wore something like it?
Yes, I once wore a jumpsuit with the buttocks cut out to be like Prince. Ok, maybe I didn't. But I thought about it long and hard. Ok, maybe I didn't. I think I'll change my answer to "no".
5) If you were in a band, what would you do?
Well, I was in a band but it ended. I played guitar and sang lead vocals. Then I was in another band and played bass (demoted). If I were in a band now I'd like to play ukelele or nose whistle.

Alright, so I was born in 1988 so I'm not sure how qualified I am to answer these questions, I'll do it anyway.
1) Did you watch MTV in the early days? No, see above.
2) Favourite musician/group of the 1980s? Cyndi Lauper, Aha, New Order, all of that lovely synthpop...
3) Have you ever had a favourite MTV VJ or show from any time? I liked Daria, she reminded me of myself at the time.
4) Have ever worn a dodgey outfit because a musician wore something like it?
I'm a big fan of blazers with a t-shirt and jeans, that's definitely a Franz Ferdinand look but it's not exclusive to that band.
5) If you were in a band, what would you do? Try to jam on the keyboard or sing (unsuccessfully)
