I think Pub Philosophy is what this forum does best.

So in the spirit of serious intellectual inquiry, I give you

Schrodinger's Toilet Seat.

So what do you reckon - up or down?

Depends on the observer.

If the observer is male, it'll be down.
If the observer is female, it'll be up.

If you watch 'The History Of NASA' backwards, it's about a space agency that has no manned spaceflight capability, then does low-orbit flights, then lands on the Moon.

It appears from this that a philosopher needs a cat, a toilet seat, a cardboard box, and of course, plenty of toast. Geeks need cats too, but also large quantities of imperfectly working silicon, and a constant supply of caffein. It clearly follows from this that philosophers are far more environmentally friendly, and cheaper to run too.

It would therefore be prudent for the government run training schemes so that geeks may be converted into philosophers.

I would say it is most definately up by definition. Up does not mean all the way, 90' up, however down does mean resting. Therefore it is by all means up, even if it is not all the way up.

I'm with Spungo. It's preposterous! Without a toilet seat we would be left in the infinite cold porcelain void for all eternity.

You'll be saying there is no Schrodinger next!

Well I asked those nice Heisenbergs from next door, but they just weren't sure.

And Mr Schrodinger is no better, he insists the seat is both up and down. Have you ever heard anything more ridiculous? He wants his toast back too.

Quantum physicists, eh? What a rum lot.

I see your point. They might possibly keep my hot posterior apart from the cold porcelain, thus obviating the need for the seat.
